Rear Window Broken

About 70 Degrees outside around 10:00 PM in Silicon Valley. I came back to my car after parking it 10 minutes ago, windows up, To this.

I cannot confirm what did this because the camera at work was pointed towards the sky. (Yeah i know). I searched the vehicle and found nothing but glass. (Also to be known the only thing valuable was a Husky Socket set worth 20$ still in the trunk)

My question is, is this a car related defect?

If you look closely the top is actually buckled outwards. Meaning it almost looks like it gained pressure, cracked and fell inward.

I'm going to be taking this down to my favorite Chevrolet Dealership which will deny everything and anything that could be the cars fault.

Do i demand a new piece of glass?

Is this being recalled by the manufacture?

I see in 2 other posts something similar happened in 2013.

I'm lost for words, this car has been nothing but a nightmare after nightmare.

What are my options?

Most likely, it's defective glass, which flexes with body roll and temperature changes and because it's defective, it may eventually break. It's most often the rear window, too, for some reason.

Glass, pressure, temperature, and hot dogs are all things that are mysterious and react differently when put together.

While I understand your frustration, just go in with photos, honesty, and a courteous (but firm) attitude and you will do fine. I am sure you aren't the first person this has happened to, and it's the perfect reason for a warranty.

At my work, we have huge doors made of glass without any kind of metal framing. One day, while no one was touching it, one of them just shattered into pieces. No one quite believed that no one had caused it until we saw the film. The only reasonable cause we thought of was that the sun was shining on it and caused a defect to become apparent.

Sometimes, glass just offs itself.

I would explain to the service adviser that you suspect some sort of flaw where the glass mounts, and have the glass tech. examine the body structure where the window attaches for flatness, missing spot welds, or any other weakness prior to replacing the broken glass. If there is no obvious structural defect where the glass beds, you likely will have a comprehensive claim on your insurance to assist in paying for a new glass.
Usually a comp claim doesn't affect your insurance rates. I have $50 comp on all my vehicles for just this reason. That way if there is fire, theft, vandalism, glass damage or any other damages other than collision, all I am responsible for is the first $50.
