reverse grinding?

i've never had that problem yet. do you come to a complete stop before trying to change from gear to reverse?

I had the same issue. i finally figured it out. For me it was making sure i had my foot pressing on the break. Even if i was showing "0mph" start consciously pressing the break then while depressed shift into gear. i been driving a manual since i have been driving (11 years) never have noticed that in any other of my cars trucks (10).

OK so its not just me, I was going to take mine to the dealer and ask if there was an info or adjustment that could be done, Reverse in general is a bit rough to get into compared to the other gears.
I could have left it in reverse over night, pulled it out to let it idle for a bit, then try and go back in and it grinds. Really weird.

It sounds as if the clutch is not releasing properly if you have difficulty shifting into reverse without grinding. Also remember that the vehicle cannot be moving at all: (dead stop) when attempting to engage reverse because there is no transmission synchronizers for reverse.
Make sure that the clutch pedal is depressed all the way before attempting to engage reverse; also, before attempting to engage reverse gear, momentarily shift to first gear, then without releasing the clutch, immediately move shifter to reverse. If it still grinds, you have a clutch release problem.
Shifting to first gear prior to reverse takes advantage of the synchronization mechanism in the transmission that assists all forward gear ranges to eliminate grinding during gear changes.

Yeah I thought it may be the clutch not working correctly, don't know if there's any adjustment but I will take it in as its becoming more frequent.

I don't believe that it matters if the vehicle is considered low or high end; low cost, or expensive; the manual transmission internals do not synchronize reverse gear. What this means is that to engage reverse gear; regardless of low or high end quality/cost of vehicle; you must be at a complete (DEAD) stop prior to attempting to engage reverse. Because of synchronizers inside the transmission, you are able to engage a forward gear while on the move. Many years ago, vehicles had no mechanical synchronization on first gear or reverse gear. To engage first gear on those vehicles; you either had to be at a dead stop to prevent gear grinding, or you had to rev match or double clutch the transmission speed to the wheel speed. If your Sonics gears grind when engaging reverse; either you are not at a dead stop, or the clutch is not completely disengaging the engine from the transmission.

The electronic drive by wire only controls the throttle by opening and closing it; thus raising or lowering engine rpm. When you depress the clutch prior to engaging reverse; you must momentarily wait until the rotating mass (Clutch Disc & Transmission Shaft) comes to a complete stop. Momentarily shifting to 1st gear, then immediately to reverse gear will also aid in a no grind reverse engagement. Selecting 1st gear or any forward gear prior to engaging reverse allows the synchronizers to stop the transmission/clutch rotation and allow a smooth, no grind reverse engagement.

Yea ive tried all different ways to help stop it...Foot on the brake, not moving, clutch all the way in, first then reverse. It still does it sometimes. I even get after I put it into first it wont go into reverse. I have to let the clutch out, then put it in reverse, in which it grinds still. Again not all the time but enough to worry me...
