Reviewer Praises “Storage Opportunities”

A reviewer for Edmunds Inside Line says “it's a pleasant surprise to find that the Sonic is different,” from other subcompacts when it comes to interior storage. Warren Clarke calls Sonic “very accomodating”:

Is insideline a Mazda2 fansite now or something? Not sure about on the coasts, but I've seen more Sonics on the road around here than 2's.

Edmunds tends to attract comments which are lacking in knowledge and or based on anger. But everyone seems to have an opinion. Unfortunately, way too many people read Edmunds as some sort of automotive dogma.

Danny5, I'm glad you chose Sonic over Mazda 2. Gimpster, it's encouraging to know there some Sonics in the Des Moines area!

I got into this segment because of the Hyundai Veloster. I test drove one and didn't like a single thing about it though, and ended up going to the Chevy dealer next door to see what they had. After driving a Sonic I knew I had to get one, its the most fun-to-drive FWD car I've ever driven.

I never even considered the Mazda2. I went and looked at specs on it online and I wasn't impressed. Poorer fuel economy than the Sonic, less power and no turbo or 6-speed for the same price. I also hate its styling, it looks too "cute" like a Miata (I hate Miatas). It isn't a man's car, and I wouldn't be caught dead driving/owning one, especially in some of the colors they offer. Some people might say the Sonic looks weird, I think it just looks aggressive, which suits me much better.

Lol. That's funny. I drove a Mazda 2 before buying my Sonic. Next to the Versa, it is the worst car in the segment. It's cheap, powerless, and rides like a wagon. I don't know why anyone would chose that car over anything other than a Versa or a moped.

sdgdf brings up an interesting point. My wife likes my Sonic, but says she can't see herself in one due to its angular styling. She currently drives a 2009 Yaris, and like the Mazda2 I feel the same way.... no man has any business driving one on a regular basis. I really hate when I have to drive it... its a rattle trap with no power or soul.

The Sonic is defn one of the most aggressive looking in its class (IMO), and the RS will only give it a leg up higher on that.

Your wife has a valid opinion, Gimpster. But most women who have any experience with my car...wife, other family, friends, and business associates...like the styling and consider it very attractive.

IMO, Chevrolet succeeded in combining the "muscular" angularity (think 86 Buick Grand National) of American styling with the smoothness of Euro and Asian sensitivity.

I have driven many of the cars in the segment, as long-term rentals, including some not even available in the U.S. Sonic represents the best of the breed in all categories.

I think the sonic compares better with the Mazda 3, mazda 2's look really small. Did enjoy the ride in the Mazda 3 I took though, nice little car....although it was optioned out a bit and I drive pretty much the option-less sonic
