I'm a new member. probably not a Jr., I am 77. I have owned Alfas, 10 Porsches 2 Mini Coopers and a Corvette. Currently have a 014 Cadillac SRX and a 64 356C Porsche coupe.
Recently sold the 011 Mini and an o7 Corvette. Replaced with a Sonic RS Hatch. Wanted the convenience of a hatch and an auto trans. The RS has become the go to car and compares very well to the Minis I have owned.

The Sonic is a very nice daily car (as you have explained). No it doesnt compare to the Vettes, Porsches, ETC that you owned, but its not designed to be. It is a DD and it does the DD job very well.
