Rust on my 2015 Sonic.

I found rust on my Sonic the other day, at the corners of the rear trim piece above the license plate . Took to dealer they told me that it's not rusted through so they won't fix it. That some serious CRAP. My car should not have rust on it ANYWHERE. I have pics but don't see how to post them. I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to post this here. Did not see a topic for Paint & Body.

Need your 10 posts first. Then u can upload your pics. I have a 15. No rust at all. Live in Michigan. Dealership needs to take care of that. Mine wouldn’t like me if I had that issue. That’s BS. keep hounding them til they cave.

I recently switched off my snow tires and closely examined for rust. None on the body at all, just some surface rust on the rear drum brakes. They're fine. 2015, two years in Maine three in NY, never garaged.

It might not matter, but is this a sedan or a hatch?

The likely cause is the trim piece being too loose and rattling against the body, wearing through all the protective layers. If its not loose, then maybe the metal was not finished properly under the trim piece.

I had three Sonics in Michigan, no rust issues on the body. A little surface rust underneath on a 2012 when it got near 100k miles, but nothing to worry about.

If possible, I think you should ask a different dealer - this isn't normal.
