Shopping new mufflers - What specs?

Couple questions:

1. I'm new to exhaust mods. For the stock 1.4 sedan exhaust piping what's the In/Out diameters so I can begin my search for muffler(s)? Is it center In, L/R Out?

2. Does anyone have the zzp resonator? I've heard a 'Catless DP, Stock mid, ZZP catback set-up" and it was too loud for me. Will the resonator help or possibly a second muffler?

3. There's consensus belief on a "best" maker of parts i.e. MPFab's Intake, or Jerry's tune. Is there a best aftermarket muffler? Been hearing Magnaflow/Flowmaster. Any recommendations??

So subjective. I really wanted the Borla but they stopped making them.

I just installed the ZZP catback. It removes the resonator and second cat (one without an O2 sensor). It somewhat loud under full throttle. I think most of the sound that annoys me is not the exhaust sound (i wanted that) but that it could use a resonator so it does not drone at certain RPMs on the highway.

Yeah 110 and then I have to pay to have it welded on...shop may charge under 100 if I'm lucky. My shop would not use the ZZP clamps and welded the whole thing together. I do think the ZZP with a resonator is probably an ideal setup . but it may be too loud for some.

I'm sure it does sound good in a full system. I might buy it at some point. But the thought of experimenting with exhaust set ups is exhausting. Still no answer to the aftermarket muffler ID/OD size. I just want a good sounding muffler for stock piping.... Gotta be someone on there who's done this.

I had a muffler shop remove the rear muffler and left the resonator in place.
Let it have some sound but not overwhelming . This was prior the the install of ZZP exhaust setup.

the stock exhaust is 1.75". you could cut the stock muffler,add a tip and leave everything else there and it will give you a slight exhaust tone which is actually a nice low tone. I did that for a about 3 months until late I build my own exhaust.

ZZP after it matures is louder/deeper.

Interesting. I'd hate to make my car sound buzzy but I would consider trying it if it's not too obnoxious. I at least try to be considerate of the other people in my neighborhood haha

If you remove just the muffler and leave the resonator it will have nice mellow sound but not loud or the like.

Do you know what the exhaust pipe is after the muffler?

They are still available through GM, I sold myself one for my RS

OK. Had the muffler deleted with 2" pipe from the resonator back. Sounds good to me and not really super loud at all IMO. With that the turbine zip sound is much more pronounced through the exhaust - which the downpipe had made audible in the first place.

Very pleased.
