I'm trying to install Eibach springs, and for the life of me, I can't disassemble the struts. I've heard people recommend taking the struts into a shop to get the springs put on. Any national chains do this, or am I looking for a local shop? Of course I did this Saturday evening, so now every place is closed...

The only special tool you need is a strut spring compressor. I just swapped out my springs for RS ones a couple weekends ago following this thread and it was really straight forward. I got the strut spring compressor from my local auto parts store and upon returning it they credited back the deposit so it didn't cost anything.

Where are you located? And you can do the whole thing with hand tools

The same way with air tools. Try spraying the top nut with some oil then reinstall everything but keep the compresser hooked up and just do it with it installed on the car..

This isn't the best way to do this..... but wrap the actual shock (damper) in a folded rag. The rag should be thick enough that it won't damage the shock in the next step.
Next, grab a pair of vice-grip pliers and clamp it so the shock doesn't spin when you try to remove the tophat nut. The pressure on the vice-grips should be light enough that it doesn't damage the shock, but tight enough that it prevents the whole assembly from spinning.

Im thinking of doing the same soon. Will the RS springs go right on the LTZ struts?

I would keep the LTZ springs and put the RS shocks and struts

Were you able to notice the difference? The more I think of it I may go with H&Rs but my driveway may beat the hell out of my front end.

I had put Eibachs on the car and for Michigan roads too low.
So I bought a set of RS springs.
They are stiffer and about an inch lower than the LTZ springs but they sit lower in the rear as well for a more level look instead of LTZ kinda high in the rear springs.
The ride was only slightly more harsh with the RS springs. I think along with
my Rear brace car handles pretty good.
There is a difference in ride between LTZ and RS but neither rides as rough as Eibachs. Ah Michigan roads gotta love it.
