Sonic RS aftermarket parts & reliability

Hello fellow Sonic owners.

This is my first post here so I am sorry if I have posted in the wrong forum or repeated a previous post.

I have had my 2015 Sonic RS for 32 000km and it is just over a year old.

I want to start modding it but I am very cautious about losing my warranty.

I have done a ECU remap and the dealership has not discovered it (I stay in South Africa and the mechanics don't seem to scan the ECU for changes), but a downpipe and cold air intake will be difficult to hide.

My question is: If you have done mods, have you had any problems and how many Km's or Miles have you done with those mods?

On a side note, my ECU remap has given me a constant problem. I can't go higher than 5700/5800RPM. It hits some sort of power limiter and I have reduced engine power for a few seconds and sometimes a check engine light come on. Other indicators is the exhaust note changes completely. It has the DSG fart sound but it makes the sound as long as the throttle is pressed.

I have taken it back the company that did the remap and they keep spinning me this story about it being the cars built in safety.

Has anyone else had this issue or know what could be causing it?

I am hoping to do the downpipe and cold air intake and have them remap it to see if there is a difference.

My RS is 3 years old and just went over 30k miles. Done the majority of mods on here. No issues with any of them. Trifecta elite tune for over a year. Running the economy option and and getting 41.8 mpg currently.

Issue you are describing sounds like the intake. Search porting the intake. This was an easy job since it is made of plastic.

I began modifying my RS about 25k miles ago (I'm at 35k miles now). Absolutely no issues. I beat on my car pretty hard too. I wouldn't be concerned with reliability issues at all. Just keep up with regular oil changes and you'll be fine.

Sounds like your tune is messed up. I just recently did the Trifecta elite tune with a K@N intake with no issues on my 2016 RS. Dealerships don't care on air intake upgrades. The down pipe will probable void warranty due to eliminating the cat. I would spend the money on Trifecta tune ( they know wht they are doing ). They have the best HP/TRQ vs any other tunes on the market. BTY, the stock turbo on a stock engine doesn't make any real power above 5K. Rev limiter I believe is at 5,800 or 6,200 anyway. Top speed also is 126MPH.
