Ok guys I have a 2012 6 speed manual transmission. I'm getting a sound like a jet engine coming from under the dash area. It get gets higher pitched as I speed up and it's louder when the clutch is engaged. From what I've read it's either the transmission, or the transfer case??? From my knowledge it is very past due for a trans. fluid change. Does anyone know any other possible causes? I'm a poor college student and can't afford to play repair whac a mole.

Sounds like a jet engine, but won't take off!

The sonic is front wheel drive only - no need to worry about a transfer case. The 2012 6 speeds were bad for a support bearing failing in the transmission. Depending on your abilities the cheapest ways would either be put a new trans from a wrecker in (if you find one cheap) or replace the bearings (much cheaper, much more difficult). If you aren't sure if that's what it is maybe get someone to take a look at it

Transmission bearing failure. Either rebuild or replace. Common issue. Read my thread in my profile about Common Sonic Problems.
