Sour smell from AC?

My car has developed a sour smell (like a wet cloth that was left wadded up).
I asked about it when I had routine Oil Change. I'm pretty sure moisture is caused by condensate from the AC.
They said it was normal and cleaning (I don't remember what he called the area that needed cleaning) the offending unit was part of the 30K maintenance. I only had 15K so they did not charge me for it.
The problem is the odor is already back only a week later.
This makes the difference between a car I like and one I despise driving.
Any ideas on how to fix this once and for all? The maintenance guy was kind of sheepish when he said it was normal and there was nothing to be done about - I'm not confident I was getting the straight story.

i noticed something similar to this... like s "sulfer/ burned oil" smell but not exactly.... from the vents only from time to time and i think it is most often after a was driving a little sporty.... it goes away though and a lot of days never smell anything ... any one else?

Yes to this and I add -

While your windows are cracked and recirculation turned off....this will expel the moisture so you don't get mold started (what you are likely smelling).

If that doesn't cure it completely, I have used this product in the past with great success -

Mine smells like a smoke machine with the defroster on...

I can confirm that I have the same issue and it's terrible. I shouldn't have to sit in my car an addition 2-minutes after running the defrosters. Is this a joke?! I've never had this issue in cars before. What about in 6 months when summer comes back around? Can I not use the A/C without getting sick?

Why not just run the fan on high (no AC, No Defrost) two minutes before you get to the house?

Two thing pop up in my mind.

1) Water is seeping in from the windshield drain area. Another member had this problem and there's a recall to fix it.

2) Your cabin air filter might need to be replaced.

Just my speculation.
