Steering "popping"

I have a 2012-turbo. I currently have 67,000 miles.(Long commute to work) anyways shortly after I purchased my Sonic I noticed a noise in the front of my car. I took it to my dealer and they said that my car was fine and the sound was normal. Anyways I am hearing more of "popping" noise when I am steering and can actually feel it in the steering wheel. I am not sure if my warranty is up already but if this is a common issue with Sonic's will my dealership be responsible seeing I took it to them when I first purchased the car?

My car has been in the shop multiple times now for bad thermostats, antifreeze diapering and also my heater control for the fan speed has been replaced. I like my Sonic but the steering issue is starting to scare me seeing I am driving on a highway everyday.

I've been battling popping sounds since I got my sonic.
Soo they haven't replaced stabilizer links or strut mounts on your sonic? I've had all those things replaced and I still hear something from time to time. It seems like a common thing on this car but I refuse to accept that it's "normal". The dissapearing coolant is also a common thing here. Try taking the car to another chevy dealer. You don't have to go to the one you got the car from. That's what Ive done.

Wasn't there a TSB for the stabilizer links? If there was, they will replace them for you free of charge. With Sonics, the links fail somewhat repeatedly, so that's the first place I'd look.

popping when steering? At what angle? Is it full turned or just normal left to right popping?

I only say this because my Contour would squeak when I turned into my driveway and went over the curb into the driveway. Found out it was my swaybar was too far over towards the driver's side and was causing the passenger side to rub against metal when the bump was big enough...

Curious to know if you may have an instance of parts interfering with each other. Might be possible to tell by any areas under the car which are shiny, or rubbed clear of dirt.

Otherwise, I'd suspect the EPS itself (we've electrical power steering don't we?)

Nothing has been replaced because I haven't taken the car back about the sound. I just have lived with the sound. Until now where I can actually feel that something isn't right.

It doesn't matter which why I turn the wheel. You can actually feel it "popping" and hear it when I move the wheels from right to left.

I've had the steering shaft(2X), column(1X), and sway bar links(2X) replaces on my wife's '12 sedan. The shaft and column made a popping sound that drove me bat**** crazy. The sway links made the car sound like a creeky door. I ended up buying Cruze aftermarket links that are made of steel. Did the job!

Thank you for the info! I am working with a Chevy rep to get my car taken care of. Seeing I took the car in shortly after I brought it's the dealships issue now. Next car will not be a Chevy I should have know better. Tis will be my third.

Almost smacked a pole over the weekend. I was at a red light turning left. Wasn't even doing 10mph. My front tires started sliding/skidding. Let me knote that I have brand new tires. Something is not right in the front end that's for sure

It's not the endlinks cause after I put my moog one's in I still had popping on left turns. This sounds more like a steering rack issue than anything else. The issue is probably because the pinion gear isn't lubed up very well which is causing the popping sound that you hear. I had mine replaced and kept the old one to make sure I didn't have any sounds and sure enough it went away. The only problem is that it came back again afte 5k miles. I also had pop clunk. ssue's when I first hit the gas and that was an issue with the bushing bolt on the lower control arm not beings tightend. That's just my .02 cents.

My car pops when taking turns. Happens occasionally and I can't seem to repeat it but I feel it through the steering wheel and hear it. I just assumed it was from suspension stresses.

iv only heard a popping noise when backing out my driveway but only happens if i turn the steering wheel all the way to the right or left.
