STL Sonic Sedan

Hey all,

I got a deal on a 2012 1.4T red sedan last week completely sporadically.

My previous car was a 2004 cavalier that I had since... 2004! Only had 65k on it but was presented the deal on the Sonic and after driving it I couldn't pass it up. It had 440 miles on it when I first took it out, so technically its used... still smells new though, haha.

I was thinking about getting a sunroof installed at the dealership. Has anyone ever done this or had any luck with getting one installed after the fact?

Tuning has also intrigued me, but I’m not sure I want to risk voiding the warranty (...yet, haha).

I wouldn't trust a sunroof that wasn't original equipment. They're just not something people regularly add after the fact so it would probably be insanely difficult to find someone that's capable and has plenty of experience.

Thanks! Will do, it's been snowing alot here lately, and although it hasnt been sticking, the car is not looking so good with all the salt residue, I will try to get some up once it clears up a bit and I get it cleaned. Thanks again!

Definately! I have seen so many more Sonics in the past week now that I am aware of them, kinda funny actually, haha.

Thanks for the info, I figured if the dealer did it, or had it shipped off for a week or so, it wouldn't cause any issues, but I guess I could be mistaken.

If I would have had the cash and drive to get a new car I'm sure I would have gone for the RS myself, but honestly I wasn't even planning on getting a new car, I just got a sweet deal. I didn't pick mine up from a dealer, but rather a friend of a friend. He got it with a bunch of rebates and GM Card cash etc. and wanted cash instead. I picked it up (18,1xx sticker) for 13,500. He snagged it from Lou Fusz though, to answer your question.

Seeing as I used to have manual everything (except transmission) it was a MAJOR upgrade for me. I think its a "2LT"? Has cruise control and bluetooth etc.

Haha I got mine at Jim Trenary in ofallon hades is an inferno orange lt with some aircrew wings and apple sticker on the back

As for the sunroof, search for the " Aftermarket sunroof " thread in the exterior mods section. General consensus is they are costly, problematic, and expensive.

Years ago I bought a car with a sunroof and I thought it was so cool. Looking back at it though I never really used it. In summer the AC was usually on and if it was cooler out the sunroof makes such a loud noise from the wind you might as well be in a convertible. I wouldnt NOT buy a car with a sunroof but I wouldnt go searching for one just for that feature.

I had a 2003 Sunfire (basically the same car) that I bought new and went 287k until it was killed in an accident last December. It was my first Ecotec and the only problem that I had was a bad fuel pump. My Sonic is my 3rd Ecotec and I expect it to be just as reliable. :banana:

Only a couple issues so far:

One being that if you don't close the glove box pretty hard it will fall open randomly, I think I can fix this by adjusting the two screws inside the box.

Another being that you can't just shift to any gear in manual mode. You would think it would be best when cruising down a substantial hill that it would be best to be in 6th gear, but it won't let you go up past a certain gear depending on your speed.

Other than that I am getting slightly worse MPG than others I have seen posted around. Maybe there is a break-in period? I am trying to drive smart, and not really pushing it very hard, but seem to be averaging 27ish (only about 10% highway).

Any comments or suggestions on any of these items would be great! Thanks!

Oh I also had two separate instances of (different) people being unable to open the rear passenger side door from the inside, but the child lock (on the center console) wasn't on. I thought that was pretty odd.

I too have noticed the glove box issue.

You really have to slam it hard to get it to stick up. The salesman actually thought it was broke because he opened it up to show me the space inside, and then closed it but it kept falling open.

My GF Sonic is the same way as well. Not a big deal if you know how to close it.
