Stock Tire Pressure Label

I was wondering if this was a misprint or not but the sticker on the inside of the driver's door says my tire pressure should be set at 38psi. Is that correct? I have a 2012 Sonic Hatchback 2LT with a 1.4L turbo. It just seems high for stock pressures.

OK thanks for the quick reply. I kinda figured since OnStar said 38psi was stock as well, but wanted to be completely sure. I had to add air to all the tires because the dealer didn't have enough in them... go figure, lol.

Chevy recommends 38,but sidewall states up to 42 if memory serves me correctly

Just ran out to the car with a flashlight... it says max of 44psi on the sidewall. I just can't wait to see how well the stock tires hold up... in St. Louis we get all sorts of weather from dry, monsoons, to ice/snow. From the looks of the tread pattern, might have to buy new tires before winter they don't look like they will do very well at all.

they are not to bad of a tire, h-rated I believe. My Sedan states 35psi just as an fyi.

the tire sidewall number is the maximum for when your fully loading that tire to its max weight capacity. watch you wear, shoud it start wearing the centers out or the wheel is to touchy, drop some pressure

My sedan states 38, but I'm running 40 in the front and 38.5 in rear.
Not stock hankooks though

Stock tires are great for the non-aggressive driver. They like to squeal around corners. Lol

I'm surprised your's says 38 psi, ususally the wider tire gets a lower spec pressure...

Both our LTZ 1.8 auto sedan, and our LTZ 1.4 manual hatch state 35 psi as maximum. OnStar confirms this on both vehicles.

i had the stock 15" wheels and i've since put 17" LTZ wheels on.

the TPMS doesn't really have accurate numbers on the pressures. I can check them and reset onstar and my digital guage has different numbers than onstar.

this a digital guage you bought from pepboys for 3.99 or a professional one? reason I ask is becuase the few digital ones I've bought have been piss poor ans would give me a differant reading (vastly sometimes) on the same tire with readings taken consectively.

I'd double check with another guage to confirm, especially since your onstar shows something differant at each corner. I always fall back on the stick guages lol

Its a high dollar digital. You can switch it between presta or Schrader valves. I have a manual tire gauge for my harley that was expensive as sh!t, they both put out the same numbers.

I can believe pressure differences between different width tire, like between 195 vs. 205 width, but not for the same size tire?!?

Could also be trim levels and vehicle weight, my 1.8L LS with stick shift weighs less than a fully loaded turbo model or automatic transmission units. I wouldn't think that would make a difference though. I have the 15inch tires also.

to do screen shot on most phones, you have to hold the "power on" button and then tap the "home" button.

bigger question is if they did change it, why is the onstar app coded differant and not across the spectrum to update it, someone who really cares needs to send a PM to chevy customer service.
