My 2012 1.4T Hatch strut mounts are creaking and popping during turning and over bumps. The car has only 8500 miles. Can I replace them without disturbing the front end alignment?

don't see why it would affect alignment since you're not adjusting the strut itself but rather replacing the mounts only

The car is about 1 month out of the 3 yr/ 36000mile warranty despite having only 8500 miles on it. I'm pretty disgusted with all the horrible sounds coming out of the front of the car considering I finally bought because it was a new car I wounldn't have to work on. I also highly distrust dealership service departments as I am familar with what sometimes goes on behind the scenes being in the trade myself. Its been cold this week and dark when I get up and dark when I come home so I haven't been out to fully check out what's involved. I just wanted to know if I'll need an alignment in the future after I replace the strut mounts.

Creaking and popping during turns and bumps...are you sure it isn't the end links?
Those are most often the cause of the sounds you describe, as least as far as I've read on the forums. They are a common problem on this car. If you search around, there are upgrade options that are better (not plastic). The end links seem an easier fix, too! It's worth checking out at least.

Thanks Fry. I had heard that as well and will certainly look the links over when I get in there to check things out this weekend. What leads me to the strut mounts is the noise occurs not only in motion during driving, but also when simply working the steering wheel back and forth while sitting still. I hope its the links though.
