hi peeps...
well, fresh off a beat down with the car salesman, i'm the proud owner of a 2013 sonic 1.4l manual lt. i traded in a 2010 cobalt that i couldn't wait to be rid of. the cobalt was my idea, but it was intended to be my wife's. i bought a used saturn vue redline (to get my kicks in) and then my wife saw it. happy wife = happy life right. she got the keys to the redline, i got the cobalt.

with 40k on the odometer the cobalt started acting up. first it was the window switches, then shutters under the front end, and it wasn't the brakes. we knew it was time for a new car, and i was so dissapointed with the cobalt i wasn't even thinking gm. then i drove my preacher's cruze with the turbo engine.

having owned a 07 gti, i knew what build quality was, and this cruze did not seem like something from gm's recent short comings. it seemed... dare i say it? german... had they turned a corner?

we priced a cruze and realized we couldn't afford one with the options i wanted. when chevy started coming out with the sonic ads i was hooked! i love hatchbacks... i test drove one with the 1.8l and loved the feel of the car, but wasn't impressed with the drive train. so i started the hunt for a sonic with the turbo, but in 2012 the only came in manual and more and more dealers are staying away from the stick. however i was willing to put in the work. besides, with a stick shift i wouldn't have to worry about my wife "stealing" this car... the only dealer with any sonic turbos was in fayetteville about 30 minutes away. we waited until new years eve when we new they'de be desperate for a sale and attacked!

after much bloodshed and tears we made a deal on a black graphite metallic sonic 1.4l with the orange flash package. let the tuning begin...

yeah... the flash package. the color combo looks like a harley davidson edition! lol. i was after a white one the dealer had put rims on, but they wouldn't come down on price. they pointed to this one in the show room and i loved the grill. the mirrors and spoiler... not so much. already got some black mirror caps, trying to figure out how to get the orange ones off. i'll post some pics when i get it clean and in the sunshine, which rarely line up together in NC!

Yes, congrats on the Sonic. Just like you, I switched from a 2010 Cobalt to a Sonic. I like everything about the Sonic better. The seats are much more comfortable and there's no comparison between the fun to drive factor. My old Cobalt was a Crystal Red Metallic and I still like how it looked, but I don't miss driving it much.

I think they just pop off. Do you have your new caps? If so, I would pull one out and see how it fits on and go from there.

There's a body repair manual thread that has a link to a complete manual. It looks like the link is still working. If you just want the page for the mirror, it's in chev_sonic504.pdf. It's pretty handy to have the whole manual though, since the documents have links that allow you to navigate from section to section. For example, the 504 document refers to chev_sonic182.pdf which describes you to remove the plastic trim piece on the inside of the door (it looks like you have to pry it off) in order to expose the bolts for the mirror.

yeah the mirror glass is supposed to pop off of the mount that attaches it to the mirror. only thing is it one of those things that feels like it needs the "magic" amount of force between getting it off and breaking it.

Once again, I agree. Orange Flash Package is the worst..... Unless your 16.

Hey finally my twin shows up, even though you have metallic flake in your paint while I don't. I've grown to like my whole flash package, I wouldn't remove the side mirror caps cuz I think it flows front, middle, & back nicely the way it is, hell I'm even thinking about eventually painting my lug nuts orange just to give it some accent down below too! For all those blasting the inferno orange metallic flash package online, first you gotta see it in person cuz it looks waaay better than stock looking hatches anyday, especially on a black one! Anyways, welcome to SOF, we FP hatches are a unique & special bunch cuz not many of us around, enjoy!

hilarious. i will admit i didn't let the dealership paint the spoiler black because i didn't want it to be permanant in case i get some black racing rims with orange accents! also if i cant figure out how to get these @#$%$ mirrors off, the flash package will stay for now anyway. lol
