Tablet or iPad mounting?

Hello!

Has anyone mounted an iPad or other tablet in their Sonic? (pics?) What do you use it for? I was considering waiting for the 2013 MyLink, but thought that a tablet in the ****pit might do many of the same things and would allow me to buy now and perhaps with end of MY $avings.

If you mean mounted in the dash, that's going to be some extensive fiberglass work. It's been done, but it gets tricky.
If you want help doing something that intense, let me know and I'll hook you up with some guides.

To answer your question, no one has done that in a Sonic yet. Not on this forum at least.

I'm actually just thinking on a gooseneck, bolted to a seat bolt in the floor, or perhaps coming out of the upper glove box, or even on top the dash if it doesn't obstruct normal visibility too much. I have music, audiobooks, and a nav program loaded on my tablet that would all be welcome on a long road trip.

As silly a it sounds, I know there is a dash-mount system for iPads you may want to look into.
It is quite large, but some people seem to think they are great.

They sell mounting/suction kits all over Ebay, find one that looks acceptable, spend $20 and give it a shot.
What's the worst that happens, you waste $20?

I found a great use for the right cubby hole in the dash . . . noticed that the side wall was smooth and wondered if the GPS/phone/tablet mount would stick to the side of the cubby hole inside. IT DOES! Great location, but the vacuum mount has to be rather low profile to work. One of mine is too high to fit in and lock.

Might be a bit of overkill for mounting in the car, but Seasucker makes a bunch of iPad mounts (http://www.seasucker.com/product-category/ipad-tablet/) I own their Mini Bomber bike rack (http://www.sonicownersforum.com/forum/t2923/) and I love it.

Tablet Mount for Nexus 7

If your still looking for a easy way to mount a tablet in your Sonic then here is mine. I'm using a Satechi mount I got off of Amazon and have it mounted sideways in the right pocket in the dash. I had to do it this way because the space on top of the dash was too deep for the mount to work. But its been stable for weeks now and it still allows me full access to the MyLink while I use the tablet as my main GPS using Waze.

I really wanted to use the area on top of the dash to mount my tablet but this was the easiest solution I could come up with. Plus I reused the mount from my last vehicle so it didn't cost anything. My main concern was not having to use a window mount since I do a lot of city driving and didn't want anything blocking any portion of my view. Also, I did not want to completely block any of the vents because I sweat like a beast and need all the AC I can get. Hopefully others will put up their mounts and I figure out a cleaner looking solution. Thanks!

Yeah the kit looks to be around $120, and would make for a fairly easy install. Says it's designed for gps, but I'm sure a tablet could be made to fit and wired in for power (8 inch opening with 7 inch bezel included). Would be a great placement for a tablet running the torque app, or gps via tethering to a phone.

I like the mount but I would like the option to easily disconnect it for the times when I have to venture into some not so nice areas of the city. I would think there would be more options out there but most people are just rigging mounts up like me. If I was smarter I would make something and patent it and get rich. Someday.....

I just bought an extra Smart Cover for my ipad.
I read somewhere that someone just cut the actual cover part off and attached the magnet segment to the dash.
The ipad just clips on to the magnet area.
Fully detachable.

I'll give it a go and post some pics if successful.

Did you do it? Anybody. I have a 7 Alcatel One touch Pop from metro PCs and this looks perfect for it.
