Throttle Controllers

Curious...

... anyone here use Throttle Controllers on your Sonic (preferably), or on any car, ever?

I've always wanted to get one. They've always been highly recommended by friends who use them... especially for 4-cylinder rides. Just never got around to buying one.

Those of you who use them, can you recommend a specific brand... and which gives the largest bang for the buck, so-to-speak?

Of course, whatever brand recommended, it has to "look good" too! Can't be sticking no ugly piece of equipment somewhere on a nice-looking dash, or around it.

Well this is the first car I've owned that doesn't have a cable... And thats one of the systems of the car I wouldn't want to screw with.

FWIW, these cars aren't "push pedal, open throttle, get power." They're push pedal, request torque, arbitrate systems to determine best way to produce requested torque, and then if the best way to do that is opening the throttle, open throttle.

Apparently, most electronic Throttle Controllers are reserved for JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) cars -- Honda, Nissan, etc. Not asian manufacturers solely, but close to it.

Bummer! I have friends who own Honda Civics/Fits/etc. and electronic throttle controllers are popular. They have modes for fuel, sport, performance, combined, and other useful modes to get more from your ride.

If possible on the Sonic, maybe Weapon-R, or Blitz, and other aftermarket ETC manufacturers will make units for the Sonic... maybe they have universal units.

IMO I would wait for HPTuners/EFILive support and not use any ancillary controller.

Also to AxleRippers point, if you have the ability log the ETC (electronic throttle control) PID's. You'll often find when you don't have your foot on it deep the computer has the throttle opened quite substantially. My Cobalts were my first ETC equipped cars and I learned a lot about them tuning the cars. The computer often would use a combination of cam positioning, boost and throttle to achieve the requested torque.

Like he said it isn't a 1:1 cable type system.
