Timing chain or timing chain guide issues?

I'm almost out of warranty and I've got a bunch of new parts coming in so I decided to go to the dealer and have a couple issues looked at.
1. My blower motor sounds like it needs WD40. If you run heat or A/C on 1 or 2 you can hear the squeak.
2. There's a rubbing sound coming from the engine. It picks up when RPM's pick up. Not being real mechanically savy I thought it might be a belt or pully. It didn't seem to affect performance or mileage.

The dealer called me and said they think they know what it is but going to run more tests. They think it might be the timing chain or the timing chain guide. Has anyone had either of these things go bad? What would cause one / both to go bad?

Called the dealership towards the end of the business day today and asked if they nailed down the problem with my car and he said they were in fact going to replace the timing chain and everything involved in the timing system. I asked him what would cause this to happen and he said he wasn't sure. It's still under warranty. It has 34,000 miles.
It had been making this sound for a couple months now. I didn't think much about it as it didn't seem to bother performance or mileage but I could hear what sounded like rubbing that sped up / slowed down with RPM's. You could really hear it if you were driving and had a wall next to you.
Would be interested in hearing if any of you have had or heard of someone having a similar issue with their 1.4 turbo.
