2017 Chevrolet Sonic Hatchback 1.4L Turbo 4 Cylinder. Manual Transmission

Hi guys I am wondering when changing the tires where is the best spot to place the floor jack when lifting the car because I have heard and read that lifting from the incorrect spot could damage the car.

Also is it true even if I lift the car with a floor jack... underneath the car could scratch and rust from it... what can I do to prevent that?

I have also read and heard the jack that came with the car is supposed to be used only in an emergency.

Do you guys switch the tires from Rear to front/ front to rear... says you're supposed to do that I think every 12000 km

Reason I am doing this all is because I am switching my winter tires to summer tires.. but I would go to the dealer or Costco for that but now I want to do it myself.

There's a pinch weld (Google it to see examples) under the car for this purpose.

Never heard about not using the jack that comes with the car, it's perfectly capable although a PITA, definitely wear gloves.

I would also recommend watching a couple of YouTube videos about it to get confident.

Lastly I think what you meant with switching tires every 12000k is what's commonly called tire rotation, please look in the manual about the recommended pattern. It'll be outlayed very clearly there.

One think that I'd keep on top though by taking it to the shop is alignment. Do that every year or so (bit overkill but doesn't hurt). Depending on your driving habits.

If you live near a Sam's Club, you should buy their cheapest membership. You get free flat repairs, and battery re-charges for being a member. I think they charge $30 or so for a rotate and balance, but you only pay once, then they do it every 6k miles if you go back. Should I mention discount gasoline and all the samples each weekend you go?
