I have done autocross events a few times in the past, unfortunately not in a Sonic (yet). However, it seems where I live now I'm in the middle of a good spot for any autocross events. Typically two hours or more to get to one, but I think I've found something just as good, if not better. With my 3-year-old-son finding an autocross event really hasn't been a problem as he is a handful! However, soon I will likely be getting a larger vehicle to replace our "family" car which is a 2006 Nissan SE-R Spec V. The wife is bugging for an SUV and I've told her I'm not trading in the Nissan just to get two thousand or less on a trade when the car runs nearly like the day I bought it new.
So my question for you all is, has anyone ever done a "Track Night in America" event? I know it's harder on your car than autocross because you are on the track and you can reach speeds over 100mph, even in my 10 year old DD I'm about 45 minutes from a track in South Florida where they have one of these events about once a month. Check out the official SCCA website for this series of events: Track Night in America
I'm digging what I am reading so far. If you need a helmet you can get a brand new one with a massive discount through Bell with the registration fee. They also offer track insurance, which sounds great.
Just looking for someone with first-hand experience so I would know what to expect with going to an event like this. I was wondering about car setup...would I need a roll-cage? Fire Suppression system? I know I would need to at minimal upgrade tires, brake lines and brake pads. Any input is appreciated.
