Tranny is going out

So recently I thought my car had a bad cv, it was a clear indication, it made a clicking noise on the drivers side whenever I started turning, now as a extra, I started to hear a whistling noise somewhere around the same area and ended up taking her in to get checked. GM got back to be and sent me this, I quote, "VEHICLE DOESN'T NEED CV AXLE- NEW TRANSMISSION OR REBUILD NEEDED- AXLE BEARING MOVEMENT WHERE IT CONNECTS TO TRANSMISSION-" and to top it all off, they want 4000 - 5000 to get it rebuilt or replaced. I had another mechanic tell me that I was being run over and that he'll check it out because the symptoms clearly point out a bad cv. The care doesn't drive rough, if anything it drives like a dream. I'm kind of bummed out, give me your opinion.

Definitely transmission. I’m driving on Sunday to pick up a transmission in Indiana. There’s a horrible grinding noise too coming from the transmission, it’s not a gear issue, it’s constant. It gets into gear just fine, runs great. But I hear harsh whistling inside the cabin and ofcourse the grind when my windows are down, it’s by far VERY noticeable.

Small update on today, after doing some research and diagnostics, I believe the very much ear piercing screeching noise is actually the planetary gear that has been worn out/damaged. Now here comes the real problem, installing the transmission myself. I plan on doing this as a project since I'm able to walk myself around due to the area I live in. I will keep you posted, I'm pretty bummed out that my sonic has only come this far to absolutely shred a transmission but I guess thats what you get when you drive a "wanna be racecar" lol.
