Maybe I'm blind, but I'm having trouble finding the transmission dipstick. Any pictures or hints? I've got the 1.8L.

There isn't one, unfortunately. Just a fill plug on the top.
It's a money grab for the dealers, IMHO. Giving the customer no way to easily verify fluid level or condition. GM started doing this in the late 90's and many other manufacturers are now doing the same.
To check it, the car has to be lifted and the fluid level can be checked underneath though I'm not sure how exactly it is done.

There is no dipstick there is a black cap on top of the transmission for fill. There is another drain plug at the bottom of the transmission. There is one plug located up the side of the transmission to check if it is full you have to take that plug out and see if fluid runs out. You can reach it from underneath the vehicle.
