Turbo covered under powertrain?

Is the turbo covered under out powertrain warranty? Need to call the dealership today. Getting the CEL for under boost. I like my Sonic but my god has this thing been in the shop so much in the 3 years I have had it, ugh

Turbo would probably not be covered. If it is I think it should be under motor.
Mine has been at the dealer way too many times to count too.
All have been covered by bumper to bumper but still frustating n

It would be cool if someone would simply make a hardened sleeve to repair the wastegate pin issue. It could be a five minute job to drill out the worn out hole and press in the repair sleeve with your pliers and call it a day.

I was specifically told when purchasing my Sonic that the Turbo actually is covered under the Powertrain Warranty.

My guess would be it's because the fact that the turbo is literally an integral part of the vehicle. It's built directly into the manifold.

Powertrain Coverage

In addition to the 3-year/36,000 mile protection, many of your powertrain components are protected even further with coverage extending to 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Engine

Engine coverage includes all internally lubricated parts, engine oil cooling hoses, and lines. Also included are all actuators and electrical components internal to the engine (e.g., Active Fuel Management valve, lifter and oil manifold) cylinder head, block, timing gears, timing chain, timing cover, oil pump/oil pump housing, OHC carriers, valve covers, oil pan, seals, gaskets, manifolds, flywheel, water pump, harmonic balancer, engine mount, turbocharger, and supercharger. Timing belts are covered until the first scheduled maintenance interval. Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are sensors, wiring, connectors, engine radiator, coolant hoses, coolant, and heater core. Coverage on the engine cooling system begins at the inlet to the water pump and ends with the thermostat housing and/or outlet that attaches to the return hose. Also excluded is the starter motor, entire pressurized fuel system (in-tank fuel pump, pressure lines, fuel rail(s), regulator, injectors, and return line), as well as the Engine/ Powertrain Control Module and/or module programming.
- For trucks equipped with a 6.6L Duramax diesel engine, the diesel engine, except those items listed under “What Is Not Covered” later in this section, is covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Transmission and transaxle coverage includes all internally lubricated parts, case, torque converter, mounts, seals and gaskets, as well as any electrical components internal to the transmission/transaxle. Also covered are any actuators directly connected to the transmission (slave cylinder, etc.). Exclusions: Exclusions from the powertrain coverage include cooling lines, hoses, radiator, sensors, wiring, and electrical connectors. Also excluded are the clutch and pressure plate, as well as any Transmission Control Module and/or module programming.

Transfer Case

Transfer case coverage includes all internally lubricated parts, case, mounts, seals and gaskets, as well as any electrical components internal to the transfer case. Also covered are any actuators directly connected to the transfer case, as well as the encoder motor. Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are transfer case cooling lines, hoses, radiator, sensors, wiring, and electrical connectors, as well as the transfer case control module and/or module programming.

Drive Systems

Drive system coverage includes all internally lubricated parts, final drive housings, axle shafts and bearings, constant velocity joints, propeller shafts and universal joints. All mounts, supports, seals, and gaskets, as well as any electrical components internal to the drive axle. Also covered are any actuators directly connected to the drive axle (e.g., front differential actuator). Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are all wheel bearings, drive wheel front and rear hub bearings, locking hubs, drive system cooling, lines, hoses, radiator, sensors, wiring, and electrical connectors related to drive systems, as well as any drive system control module and/or module programming.

Warranty

The Champ, your above statement is so true! It goes to say if you use per say add "fuel additive" in your fuel tank. And you have a issue with your fuel system while under warranty. Dealer tech. has your fuel analysised and fuel test comes back positive with fuel mix issue. Service tech./manager can have your "warranty" on powertrain eliminated! On fuel additives what I do I buy fuel additive from Dealer Parts area...never had a issue then! Goes to say before you modify powertrain (ex. exhaust header, cold air induction, etc.) ask service manager what that will do to your warranty!

That's why I placed the words, "can have" in my sentences. A issue that occurs per say with the powertrain and tech./service manager finds you added a additive. It will be at the discernment of tech./service manager to take the warranty under consideration. I knew of individuals that had their vehicles undercoated. The undercoater business drilled holes in the body for the rust proof. Individual took their car in for service and service dept. took notice of holes, etc. Individuals were told their warranty was cancelled!

Why would a dealer or GM for that matter void a powertrain warranty over rust proofing? It just doesn't work that way now they could void the B2B for that but again GM and the dealer would have to prove any damage first that would or could void the B2B. I forget what law covers that type of issue your friend should look into that

I doubt that it was the Powertrain Warranty that was voided and it wouldn't void the Bumper to Bumper either.

But drilling holes could void the factory rust warranty - which is what I think CSLT2014 was referring to.

The Champ, sorry about the confusion! Warranty Bumper To Bumper is broken up into sections. Like for example, powertrain (engine, transmission, etc.), body, chassis, etc., etc. A rust proof garage that drilled hole(s) into your body to install rust proof could in fact effect your "body" warranty. Now, regarding fuel additives under "Powertrain Component Warranty Coverage"... "Exclusions:". Quote,"Also excluded is the starter motor, entire pressurized fuel system (in-tank fuel pump, pressure lines, fuel rail(s), regulator, injectors, and return line) etc., etc. Now, under "New Vehicle Limited Warranty...What is Not Covered" section. Section with "Damage Due to Accident, Misuse, or Alteration". Does not cover section, "Alteration,modification, or tampering to the vehicle, including but not limited to the body,chassis, powertrain, driveline, software, or other componets after final asy. by GM." Common sense and extended warranties also will state that "alternations" means: oversized tires, installation of header pipes or lift kits, and removal of any emission control system components". Like you have stated before The Champ when you buy a new or used car at the dealer read the "Warranty"! Any modification, etc. can effect you "Warranty" at time of service on your vehicle.

Didn't want to forget. You have a aftermarket audio system installed by a professional installer. I will use "Sonic 007" who is a professional installer working with Best Buy in Florida. Best Buy covers the installation and audio system warranty on your new audio system. I had a audio system installed in a Pontiac GrandAm I had. Best Buy covered the audio system and during warranty period my sub woofer blew! Warranty covered new one since they couldn't prove I misused it! And important that during installation main wire way that has fuse connected to positive side of battery. The installer took line through large rubber grommet by steering shaft. Drilling hole through rubber did not effect warranty and installer used silicone to seal line! Very smart professional installer...why drill a hole through metal on firewall? Then you would have to install rubber grommet around hole and take power line through. (You ask why rubber grommet...without protection of rubber grommet you have a real chance of cutting electrical line at install or down the road knife effect could happen at firewall hole.) Some of these lessons learned by myself and watching professionals/techs.

I am at the dealship right now waiting to get the turbo looked at. It only took 4 calls to the service department and me bitching them out because they never called me back. I know they are going to have to order a new turbo and replace it. How long should it take them to swap it out?

If you look above you'll see GM said it is.
Sounds like your dealer sucks. Why do you keep going back to them and complaining about them on a forum?

Complain to GM about them and find another dealer.
