Uneven tire wear

I noticed today that my back tires are almost completely bald and my front tires are fine. This is happening on both rear Passanger and rear driver sides...my car was rear ended a little bit ago and I was wondering could it be an alignment or suspension issue that they just didn't see...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well being rear ended would do that. I would go get it realigned and make sure nothing got tweeked in the process

Yeah...that's what I thought but when I took it to the dealership to have the work done I remember them saying " I'm surprised there was no damage to the suspension"....guess they were wrong

Whoever did the repair should take care of it. It obviously wasn't done right!

Yes, I would definitely suggest taking your Sonic back in to the same dealership to have them check it out. In order to be sure, you don't have a suspension or alignment related issues going on. Something definetly got tweaked. I imagine since there are no adjustments on the rear they did not actively look at where the rear actually was on camber, toe, caster and just checked out the front. (All alignment machines I've used have will show an out of spec alignment in red as well as showing current angle and ideal spec, it is then adjusted and there is a window where it shows up on the monitor as green (acceptable). However if that axle or geometry feature is not adjustable it willappear gray on the screen although the alignment is still displayed. Its also possible to only do a frt end align which will not even show the tech where the alignments at on the rear)

, I'm guessing they only did a frt end align as there is no adj for the rear which given the fact you were rear ended is unacceptable. Go back there and inform them of the tire wear and tll them the rear needs to be checked (also ask for a printout of the alignment specs).

They were paid to fix your car and should be obligated to make it right. also since the rear is not adjustable they will likely have to replace some parts.

Thanks...that was very informative....I don't know a lot about cars and what they should and shouldn't do for them....I guess I trust people a bit to much...I figured taking ot to the dealership where I bought it they would make sure everything was like new....can't blame them too much though....I know they were extremely busy....but they will if it properly I'm sure...maybe nothin looked wrong when they fixed it....oh well....I'll be sure to ask for that print out though...I also enjoyed your use of "getting it straightened out" I don't know if pun was intended....but it made me laugh

I'm glad I was of some assistance ii didn't intentionally make a pun but I suppose it does work in that context haha.

Oh and just so you know what to expect on that alignment sheet. It is a paper that is printed off the alignment machine that shows what each alignment angle is for Camber, Caster, & Toe for all 4 wheels as well as a total for the Frt axles and also rear axle (its like an avg of the left and right side for each angle). This sheet should also list what the factory spec is and you will also see what I was talking about with the red and green bars (or grey) that denote the acceptable window for your alignment and where it stands within that window.

It may also show intial alignment and then final alignment. Or just final alignment depending on how they set up the computer and its model. The final alignment sheet is the one you want as it will show you what the specs are after they are done with it, or just what they are if they are only checking it when you bring it in.

Does anyone think there could be possible damage to the frame? (well unibody...I think that's what the sonic has) and if so how much would a repair on that be? I understand that without exactly knowing what's wrong there's no way to get a solid number....just a question...I've already had about 4500 worth of repairs on this 5 month old car....not accounting for what's to come

Howwas the car hit? The reartwist beam can be bent if hit just right. Depending on how far out the rear alignment is it can be fixed with shims. Based on the tire wear I am going to guess that it is bent and beyond fixing with shims.

Replacement of the twist beam plus labor. Labor shouldn't be too ridiculous.
