Thanks for the ad, first post, have an issue obviously that I could use advice with before purchasing parts. Apologies if my post is in the wrong place or my etiquette is bad.
My wife owns a '15 1.4 ltz with 80,000 on it... last night she came home from work complaining about a burned smell. We popped the hood and I noticed an engine oil mess on the front top of the head between the valve cover and the head. It was a small mess, there was a slight amount of oil sprayed up on the hood liner.
Let's start by saying it's been single digit temps here Fahrenheit. She drives approximately 1/4 mile home and I assume she warmed her car up prior to driving.
I checked the oil, its about due a change anyways... it's been about 7,000 miles since the last change and top off... the oil is black and worn, but probably not burned. It's about 1/2 quart low, but thats been typical.
I did some digging and discovered the issue with the pcv valve which causes excessive oil consumption and cause the valve cover gasket to leak.
I understand the full fix, replacing the intake manifold with pinned pcv valve, and the valve cover... torqueing bolts to spec etc and making sure to use some rtv in the correct places.
My question is... does this slight leak during extremely cold Temps warrant buying these parts and making the repair?
Should we drive it a little under monitoring and try to duplicate the problem under more normal Temps? Next week it's warming up...
Thanks in advance!
