What else is needed? MOAR HP (2013 RS)

Looking to see what else I can get for performance to push my turbo as much as i can get out of it... so far I have the following

ZZP intake
ZZP downpipe
Borla exhaust
Trifecta tune 93 octane

not sure where to go from here other than:
Mid pipe
secondary cat straight pipe
upgraded intercooler
injectors**

**- I have read that the stock injectors are completely fine until max HP is reached... am I wrong? do i need to upgrade my injectors to get to the 200whp goal?

I also cannot use e85 anymore they took out the last e85 pump in WV.... :blank face:


Basically I'm looking to make around 200whp... and I want to know what i have to do to get to it...

Also to make that kind of HP do I HAVE to change my clutch? I only have 15K on my RS i'm not looking to change the clutch yet lol

Before you get to far into the mid at test pipe, I would sell your ZZP down pipe and go for MPFab's "Anaconda" turbo to cat back pipe. If you're running stock injectors swapping to the 42's will net you more power just by themselves with the revised tune, not a ton, but 5 hp is a lot and they will allow you to push your car further one the time comes. Also going from the 2 1/4" Borla to a 2.5" system will help (ZZP has the best bang for the buck on 2.5" cat backs). Either MPFab or DDM's intercooler kits will help as well. I would run the clutch until it starts to slip, also, unless you ask for Vince to push the power past the clutch's limit it will be limited to a torque that the clutch can handle.

It looks like you have the list you need, you just need to start acquiring the parts and getting them installed and the tune updated.

Get MPFabs intercooler kit, a midpipe, port the intake manifold and you'll be barking at 200hp.

The stock Injectors will be close to or maxed out at 200hp. Mint are at ~95% at 170 hp

The stock clutch is in danger of slipping at a little over 200 ft lbs of TORQUE... I've heard whisperings that Vince won't tune much beyond 200tq, regardless of E-85 or not. If that's true it is possible to get a gas tune "blue pilled" until upgrading the clutch.

Water/methanol injection is another option to increase horsepower.

You could also opt to get the "Super GT14" turbo upgrade that Vermont Tuning offers.

Sorry, but not quite correct. Just changing injectors will not net you ANY power increase/decrease as long as the engine is tuned properly before and after the swap.

But you are correct, upgrading the injectors will allow headroom for future mods/power and is the reason to change them out for larger units.


OP, you could look at spraying meth to drop IATs even more and run more boost. Really going to depend what kind of boost pressure you're seeing now, dont want to push the stock turbo too far out of it's optimal range.
If you want to go big, look at VTuner's turbo upgrade. (ok Im just reiterating Foxbox's post now...:blankface

ok so from what I have read and researched on...

I'm 100% going to install the anaconda DP to mid pipe... NOW the question is I need the 3" borla muffler.. the only one I have seen is Here

Next about the turbo upgrade. I plan on waiting untila DIY manifold comes into play.. i really like the gt28rs turbo and I have a t3/t4 turbo sitting at my house that im going to play with when the manifold is created... *who knows when that will be*

I don't really want to upgrade my intercooler until i upgrade my turbo..

BUT METH now that's different because i can swap that into the new turbo set up... I know 0% about Meth so if someone could school me on that, that would be awesome..

You do not need a muffler and if you keep the resonator (which has no effect on power) you will meet decible codes. If you desire to make more power and use it, delete the muffler.

I did not go back and see all you propose, but if you make more power you will also need to change tires, consider lowering, and consider other suspension mods.

You don't need the meth or injectors to make 170whp.

I made 167whp/226wtq with the following:

ZZP intake
ZZP cat-back
ZZP downpipe
Trifecta Tune

That was on a Mustang Dyno.

No eta on a manifold yet. It appears modifying the stock manifold to accept a different turbo is the most economical option at the moment.


Water Methanol injection is not a power adder on It's own per se. It is an anti-knock counter measure that allows more power to be made by adding more spark timing and/or boost without encountering detonation. Similar results can be had with E-85 or race gas (because they are also anti-knock measures.)

With the mods you listed you will be around 200hp, if you replaced Meth with E-85 you'd have near identical results. Check out my Dyno thread, link in Sig.


Yes we have forged internals. Regardless of that you'll eventually have to upgrade internals to support more power. Because turbo engines have alot of headroom engineered into the internals you won't need to worry about upgrading until switching turbos. Even then you should have a little headroom left, but don't expect 100k mi reliability.

One of the members on Cruze talk took his 42s out.He was getting oil contamination with fuel in the oil.I would say he has just about the most powerful cruze on the board.Around 200/240 at the wheels.Stock Injectors appear to be doing fine.

GM overbuilt this engine, it is really surprising just how far we can go without modifying the expensive stuff.

I have the red pill, and blew through two upgraded clutches. I currently am running an OEM clutch installed by a Chevy service department, and have had no signs of clutch trouble in over four months. I'm not convinced the stock clutch is as bad as we thought, and would certainly recommend running it until it fails.

Good to know. You're just daily driving it or is that any kind of racing?

Vince (of Trifecta) would not release the "red pill" tune until I got a new clutch in, but I practically never run blue pill, and almost always have a tank of E85. I can get as much as 33 mpg out of a tank of corn... but as I normally drive, I'm usually getting 22mpg, if that gives you an idea of how not sedately I drive.

This gives me a lot more confidence in the clutch. If Mpfab's dyno is anything to go by, I should be knocking on 240 ft lb torque. I don't drive that hard most of the time, so I hope the clutch holds up.

Meth injection is the iceing on the cake.You can run a fair amount more timeing and increase boost with very reasonable combustion temps.Go to snows web sight and veiw some of the Tech stuff on meth Injection.On a ww2 fighter prop plane they were able to increase the HP by over 1000 with the use of meth injection.The engine put out was close to 4000 HP.
