Well coming from a 2016 M235i this was an easy choice?
Last month tired after a long day of work I totaled my M235i rear ended someone on the way home from work pushing him into a 3rd car. They all drove off. I had to sit and look at my car. I didn’t get a ticket. But I was obviously at fault for the losses. My BMW totaled. My credit score dropped a bit. Too much Door Dash eating out during Covid. Used Car prices sky rocketed as rental car companies sold off inventory to survive shutdowns etc causing inflation when things came back. Although I got paid on the BMW I said time to go back to something cheaper.
Back when I was younger and didn’t have much money I was a traveling sales rep. I rented a lot of nice cars and a lot of economy cars. Flew all over the USA. Ford Focus was usually my first pick when it came to economy but I liked the Sonic a ton due to its infotainment system and that 1.4 Turbo. I never bought one. The reason I did was that was my budget and I remembered the car. I don’t know how anyone could buy a spark. Way too little power, CVT nightmares which is why BMW ditched those things fast. Anyways the Sonic isn’t a bad car for what it is. So I bought one. This is the comeback car. Lol. I don’t know if I’d buy another BMW again or Mercedes honestly you’ll get sick of it. $1700 every-time the simplest thing breaks. Happy with the decision! Mass airflow sensor on a Sonic $60. Try $355 on my BMWs. Lol takes 3 mins to stick the damn thing in on all cars too.
Anyways I bought the Sonic as I remembered renting it? Although it wasn’t my go to car when I wanted to save gas. It had what I wanted. Sometimes I got Nissan Maximas even had a charger once. Ugghhhh ain’t my car I’m not paying for that gas. But Mr. Sullivan Free Upgrade. Too much money for the trip in gas. Lol.
Sonic checks a lot of boxes. Why did they discontinue it. Smaller cars are dropping off the market. Less demand. Chevy Spark is a rebranded Daewoo. Cheaper to make. So they kept the Spark got rid of the Sonic. $$$.
Sucks to buy a car right now tho even if you total one. 30% increases due to Covid if theirs a market correction and you financed with the way these cars drop in value. You’ll need gap coverage.
But that’s how I bought the Sonic. I spent enough time in it to know. For the money it does what I want it to do. Ford Focus is a better car. Cost a bit more infotainment system is garbage and the trans is clunky. But it’ll do 40mpgs with your eyes closed. Sonic way better infotainment system stock. More power in some cases cheaper. MPGs ehhhh not bad not great better than what I been driving.
