Windshield haze

Hey all. I have a 2014 Sonic LT with the turbo, sitting at about 26k miles and I'm wondering if it's common to sometimes have a type of haze appear on the lower interior windshield? It's not frost nor is it watery or oily as I can wipe it away easy enough, but it'll randomly appear again when running the defrost sometimes. I'm using air coming directly from the outside and not recirculating it.

The best way I can describe it is if somebody smoked in their car and you wiped across the windshield, you'd see the clear difference. There's no leaking under the car and the coolant level is fine. The passenger carpet is dry and there's no sweet smell. I'm not sure if it's just from the frigid temps or what but I also don't want to be the heater core or some related component. Any advice? Thanks!

I think it's just the slow accumulation of exhaust residue and other particulates accumulating over time. I notice this in my car, as this haze builds up it seems to make the windshield more prone to fogging up. After it bugs me enough and I clean the windows they don't fog up nearly as much.

I have heard wiping the inner windshield with shaving cream will help prevent haze/moisture (totally not joking ) wipe it on then off fully will help prevent those build ups

Also windex wiped off with b&w newspaper will leave no streaks and gets windshield super clean

my entire windshield does this on the inside. it annoys the heck out of me because 2 hours after I deep clean it, its starting to haze again

How does your cabin air filter look? If it's filthy.....

Cabin filter should be the first thing to check it could clog. Also make sure your vent selector is in the correct position.
