After only 1600 miles and getting a couple of paint chips already I decided to have paint protection film installed on my car.
Before I could do that though I had to get rid of some rail dust in the paint. I used a clay bar but that only removed some of it. Ended up buying some stuff called Iron-X. This stuff works amazingly well and now my hood and bumper look spotless. The only real bad thing about it is it stinks. It's very easy to use though and works in minutes with really no scrubbing needed. I was impressed.
So after the paint was cleaned I had a professional installer put some paint protection film on the hood, fenders, mirrors, headlights, and front bumper. He threw in a small piece to protect top of the rear bumper from luggage and stuff for free. I also had him cover all the door sills since my girlfriend likes to wear nice sharp heals. In the past he used 3M but told me he was now using a material called Xpel which is warrantied for 10 years.
After 4+ hours and $625 I had a car that will hopefully look brand new for years to come. I know it won't stop all rocks or chips but probably 99% of them. I absolutely hate chips so to me it's worth the price for some peace of mind especially since this is my daily driver and will also be used for numerous road trips.
