ZSPEC headlights?

Hey I was wondering if anybody had done the ZSPEC headlights or how to go about achieving that look?

I'm mainly interested in the dark look it has. Where as our stock ones are all chrome. I know the rings are painted orange/red.

I was thinking maybe taking apart the headlights and painting all the chrome parts gloss black? Is this what they did?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Z-spec never saw production. Those 18" Z-spec rims with color accents? Yeah, there's only a 17" version in plain white, black, or silver. The Alcantara dash and wheel? Nope. The gloss black foglight inserts? Didn't happen.

However, since you seem to be looking to recreate the look, you could try in one of two ways.

If you want to do minimal damage to the light while achieving this look, simply use headlight film such as Lamin-X or Headlight Armor. Lamin-X's "Smoked" color should give the desired results. You can also paint your chrome rings around the headlights if you wish. Unfortunately, the turn signal will be tricky and may require a spray tint rather than a laminate.

Or you can do the extremely intense version you already suggested and take apart the entire headlight and cut open the housing to paint (or tint) the shiny bits black. If you insist on going this route, try to use a product that darkens but doesn't hinder the reflectors ability to dissipate the light. You might try Dupli-color's Metalcast "Black".

Thanks for the reply.. haha yeah I wish they made the parts available. Iv had several cars where I wanted to paint the chrome part black. I'll see if I can get me another set of stock headlights and give it a go. Not sure how I feel about putting my headlights in an oven. Do you think a heat gun can work? I'm 3 months away from being home so this won't be something I can do any time soon.

I did look at the armor headlight smoke film but it wasn't very dark. They have a video of them doing one on a sonic on youtube.
