So my BMW M235i and Mini Cooper S both had tunes. But they were faster cars off the lot. Now amazingly these Sonics are cheap to modify. But the gains are less due to what they start with.
I probably wouldn’t do a Trifecta Tune personally I think that’s more of a joke. You need data logging. My BMW M235i went from 326 stock too almost 400 with very little mods and a tune. You need to graph things. Now on a N55 BMW engine it’s easier as BMW detunes a M235i vs a M2.
ZZP or BNR is what I would use. This engine is already being used in a Buick Encore with 155hp. Meaning Chevy tuned it themselves to handle the extra weight. I highly doubt theirs any differences if much. Interchangeable parts are the way they make money. Most manufacturers don’t change parts much.
Unfortunately these cars will never be fast. But you can make them fun to drive. And a lot quicker than what they are. In some cases more passing power is worth it. They way you bump the power in a Sonic is boost. You need a turbo to see a tune make a solid effect, which the 1.4 has.
Intakes and Exhausts they’ll make some noise but the tune is gonna do the most with the supporting mods.
Down pipe is a common upgrade for more out of a tune.
Will I do it. I’m contemplating….Sonic is never gonna be that quick for me. But then again I can get some extra HP out of it quick and cheap. So I might do it. But this won’t be a build car.
I have chatted with ZZP kinda told them my story and played dumb. Lol. Honestly Turbo Tim knows what he’s doing. These guys ain’t playing around and recently had a Sonic hit 400hp. Which is impressive as ****. Still slow at 11.8 in the QT Mile. But for this car unreal.
I’m debating. Lol. I just want to be around Fiat Abarth Range or slow mini. Fun to drive. Maybe some small suspension upgrades. We will see. Anyways I’ve had cars Tuned before. M235i was Fast because that ZF8 Automatic. That thing would blow cars out of the water with 400hp. Unfortunately the Sonic nothing to brag about. The auto ain’t that great and you’ll never outshift a ZF8. You can easily gain more power just know your not winning races with out a big wallet.
I hope I’m helping people here! Coming from BMW to Chevy wasn’t an easy thing. But I can tell you based on my experience and help with the BMW. ZZP or BNR. And I’d probably go to ZZP.
