I'd like to premise this reply with the fact that I am NOT trying to sound like "that guy" when I say what this car is.
The car is one (of a few I'm sure) prototype Sonics. My friend who owns and runs LDRSHP designs and the new Rockstar Performance Garage (Rockstar Energy Drinks), got this and another Sonic for the 2011 SEMA show. This car and the other were both featured at SEMA. This car was on the main floor. I do not remember exactly what booth. The other Sonic he built was in Chevy's booth. It was the copper color one. Chevy kept that car. He got to keep this one.
The carbon pieces featured on this car are the first ones available. He sent the hood, front fenders and rear hatch to Seibon's factory in Japan for them to prototype the ones that are now available for purchase. They are real carbon, and are light as hell! I know as I helped build this car.
It has a custom suede interior courtesy of Stitchcraft Interiors of SoCal fame.
Over all, the car was kept subtle per Chevy. The first Sonics on display at the 2011 SEMA show were told to be built as if the consumer could go to the stealership and purchase the car as it looks. The customization was to be done in a manner that it could possibly be licensed by Chevy for use on these and other vehicles as factory "upgrades"
The stickers are there for the sponsors of the vehicle. They are red to match the Brembo brake kit. They are a little much for me too, but I understand the sponsors rely on having them on the car. I want to change the color of them, but need permission first.
I work for Epsilon Electronics. We own 5 brands of car audio companies including Soundstream and PPI. This car received a modest Soundstream system for the show. The copper Sonic received PPI gear as our main colors for the brand is now black and copper.
I have plans of turning this little beast into our new demo car. We have been kicking around the idea of having one for a while now, but the owners really didn't want to spend the money on a car.
