Has anyone had the gear shift knob button get stuck? Yesterday while parking my car my gear shift knob button got stuck. I was able to move between gears by just keeping my foot on the brake and shift the gear. I tried to take the key out while in park but it wouldn't come out. I took it over to my dealer(less than a mile from my house) and they couldn't get the button out. They said they never seen this before. They put the car in park and then disconnected the battery because the key was stuck in the accessories position due to the button being stuck. This car is only 14 months old with just over 5,500 miles .

Are you talking about the silver button on the front of shifter that you press to change gears?

I think you have the right button in mind because he said he took it out of PARK. A manual doesn't have the " PARK" option on the stick.
I thought I was very clear. How many buttons do you have on your gear shift knob that are used to change gears? The +/- are used within the manual gear only.

Yea, thanks for pointing out the obvious.
My thoughts were that the + and - of the manual mode could have been interfering and gotten stuck.

Tell the dealer to replace your current shifter with a real one, which has the numbers 1-6 inscribed on the top. They may also have to replace your incorrect transmission, those are often included with the bogus shifter. Pick up some aftermarket bushings from DDM, since GM simply can't get those right, and you're golden.

Which one was it, the brake, the accelerator, or the clutch? Hmm, you can't get a car moving without the latter two, so no way to get the car off the dealer's lot, I assume it's the brake. That's a safety hazard, you might want to get it looked at.

sorry...i know it's an old thread...but right now i have the same problem with the (automatic) shift knob, won't come out...!
Brought it to the dealer, last fryday...they greased it a little...and it was working fine for 1 day...
Is this an common Sonic problem...and what is the best thing to do...?

Only the second time I've heard of it, but since it's happened at least once to someone else, it's now a thing, not a fluke. Might want to contact our customer service reps, see if they can get your dealerships to compare notes and brainstorm.

My button actually broke. It's super loose and if I push it in all the way it'll get stuck.

Has anyone tried the manual key release underneath the ignition switch when the shifter is jacked up and the key can't be removed? It is described in the US owner's manual section 9-15.
