Good News!

I've just downloaded in pdf the new 2012 Sonic Owner's Manual!

If this link doesn't work (I had to sign-up to a yahoo site), don't fret!

Simply go to 2011 Cars, SUVs, Trucks, Crossovers & Vans | Chevrolet and put your mouse over "Owners" and click on "Owner's Login". Then click on "Sign In | Sign Up". You'll have to create your Yahoo ID.
Once registered, I believe it'll ask for the vehicle make/model/year. You do NOT need to enter a VIN. Once it's in the system, you'll be taken to a page that'll say "Owner Center".
Halfway down, you should see a "Blue Bar" with the names: ACCOUNTS, SERVICE RECORDS, OFFERS, SONIC RECALLS, MANUALS
Click on "MANUALS".

Possibly NO SPARE TIRE!! And there isn't an option to buy one like on the cruze.. argh.. I certainly hope they come with spares. The whole compressor and goo thing is the dumbest idea ever imho.

Spare Tire is STANDARD, Inflation Kit OPTIONAL on LS

According to the RPO Codes, the Spare Tire is STANDARD on ALL Sonic Models.
The Inflation Kit is OPTIONAL only on the LS models. Look under "Standard Equipment" under Tires. You'll see the Compact Spare is Standard on all Sonic models.

On Page# 10-57

Tire Chains
- WARNING -
Do not use tire chains. There is not enough clearance.

Guess you'll either have to switch (if allowed) to studded or "Blizzak" type tires or use cables if you have lots of snow during the winter.

As For me, I'm going with studded tires. That Black Ice we get on the highways can be lethal!

So I found out some interesting quirks when I went in to the dealership the other day to inquire about pre-ordering a sonic.

First, I wasn't aware that the Fog Lamp and 16 Inch wheel package was limited to the automatic/1.8L configuration. I thought this was available to both engines. It did say however in the literature that the LT with Turbo had available 17inch rims, but nowhere on the dealer order sheet could you select 17 inch wheels as one of the options. Hopefully this changes soon, because I do not want those 15 inch wheels.

And it doesn't really matter to me, but for anyone shopping a 1.8L with auto, the 16 inch wheels look almost identical to the 15 inch rims with slightly different spacing on the dual spoke design.

The other thing we came across when I was lamenting over the launch color choices was that the Gray color used in most of the auto show pictures will not be available at launch. The fleet manager told me that this was due to a product constraint and that most vehicles that GM uses with that color are being held up. This is because GM purchases that color from Japan (Tsunami Aftermath). I find it a little odd that a global company like GM doesn't have a dynamic warehousing system and can't just find another supplier to replace it. Silly.

But... on another page he pulled up, it showed the Gray color as an option. He was as confused as I was.

And, if anyone is as slow as I am in figuring it out. The 1LT and 2LT designations are just the difference between manual and automatic. Kinda funky, I would have thought it would mean more standard equipment.

I gotta say, i am a bit frustrated that we are so close to the launch date and Chevy is all out of sorts with their build information on the Sonic and the Chevy site has so little information on the car. There should have been a build your own car option by now with 360s and gallery.

When I walked into my local dealer to pre-order, he asked what color did I want to get. I said, "Blue". He said blue isn't listed on the order sheet. I told him that's one of the colors they're showing at the auto shows.

Turns out Blue is going to be offered overseas first & won't be available here till mid MY 2012 (March?). But I wasn't going to wait that long and instead I ordered the Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat.

It does seem strange that even the official price for all the options (Sunroof) hasn't been released from GM. Yet go to Edmunds.com (and some others), & they show it.

I sure hope the first Sonic's in production aren't going to be plagued with problems.

Although I admit to being frustrated myself about the Chevy site, I have come to notice ever since Build Your Own came into existence, it is ALWAYS tardy when new model years change, with no exceptions that I have ever noticed. The early pre-orders will be on the road for a month or more before the Chevy site is updated, indeed, the dealers will have the official pricing long before the site is updated. Does it make sense? Of course not. Is there a good reason? None that I can think of. Anyone going to a Build Your Own site at this time of a model year is not looking at current offerings, so reasons regarding the need to sell already builds seems to me to be out of touch. One of these years GM will catch on, but this does not seem to be the year. Apologies for the rant, but this continuing GM quirk is so out of touch!

Hey mysterygtx, several of us noticed the same things by looking thru the online order guide before we ordered:

I ordered 1LT 1.4T, I wanted fogs and sunroof, niether of which I could get...but I can live without them.
I'm OK with 15" wheels, I commute over pot-holed roads and don't care about the looks as much...

No you can't. It seems Chevy has removed the Sonic manual from their site, which is why the links here do not work. Why would they do that? I do not know but it could be somewhere there is a Sonic owner who has posted disparaging remarks about OnStar. (Joking)

The link to the 2012 sonic manual is there... but it is not listed AS the manual. I guess I will have to wait to read the 2013 manual in my glove box this evening after pickup! woot!
