News to me
I've read similar statements several times...just what doesn't work with Siri on MyLink? I've mentioned before that the only feature listed in the GM announcement is turn-by-turn directions. And turn-by-turn works flawlessly with the new Google Maps app on the iPhone. It even interrupts USB playback (and I'm assuming any other audio sources) with directions over bluetooth audio. If it works with Google Maps but doesn't with Apple's map app then that's an app problem and there's no need to update MyLink. The delay is probably due to adding Siri integration to myLink. As any of us Android users know, anything iPhone comes first, thus the delay in the Mylink upgrade.
Do we know this for sure? I remember reading a couple threads about getting bluetooth upgraded via Onstar...The big downfall in Mylink is that it can't be upgraded over the air through OnStar or via the user through USB.
From what I've seen it's much more likely that Android integration is the holdup. Engis Technologies, the company behind the stellar navigation app Gogo3D (sarcasm intended), doesn't look like they have any apps in the Play store. Add to that the fragmentation in Android's capabilities across the different carriers and hardware manufacturers and delivering an Android app starts looking like a really big challenge. Especially to a developer that's used to playing inside the walled IOS garden. If that were the case, we'd probably all have BrinGo already, TuneIn whenever it was ready, and Siri whenever.
Tell me about it. They announced the map app in March and expected it to be available "in the fall". Maybe they meant fall 2013?Also, Chevy's communication on this has been totally non-existent.
I did my every-couple-of-weeks Bringo search on Google and came up with this post and video on drivingthenation. It's the "GM Lead Connected Customer Specialist" for the western region demonstrating Bringo. It was posted Jan 27, 2013, and he refers to it in the present tense, not 'available soon.' Looks pretty good. Unclear from the video is if it does verbal turn-by-turn. I can hear something faintly in the background, but not sure if it's Bringo talking or some other noise. Without verbal turn-by-turn, it won't take the place of the navigation on my Galkaxy s3.
Still amazing, though, that there isn't any direct info from GM on this. They first demo'd this in March, 2012. This doesn't bode well for GM making Mylink a robust platform for smartphone connectivity if it takes almost a year for them to release just one app they promoted.
Per my memory Bring Go was always scheduled to be available late January early February. I do not recall any indication it would be earlier. It is possible I missed something. Possible but not likely.
I have no idea what is involved in anything related to car radio; I do not even have a smartphone and have been at war with OnStar for about five years, but I do read and sometimes I even understand what I have read.
How about we do this: if Bring Go remains unavailable come March, lets do an online petition for all SOF members who have a smartphone to sign asking Chevy to get with the program?
