Oil filter question

I just changed the oil on my car today at 1200 miles. I bought a GM filter that came with a black O ring. When I removed the cartridge cover I noticed the factory O ring was blue and slightly fatter than the one that came with the GM filter I bought at a GM dealer. It also seemed like it was more dense (less pliable) then the replacement one. I tried to remove the factory O ring but it was stuck on and almost looked form fitted. I came to the conclusion that in order for me to remove it I will have to cut it off. I ended up just leaving it on in fear that the new one may not seat as well as the factory one. Is it possible that the factory switched to a non removable O ring? My car was made October 2012 as a 13 model 1.4 turbo. Thanks for any feedback on this.

Not totally sure, however I would say it will always be removable. I wouldn't be surprised if there are two OEM filter types. I am also sure both work fine.

The bigger question, why change oil so soon?

I figured that the first oil change has a lot of break in particles and assembly lube.I always changed my oil the first time at around 1000 miles on a new car then follow the factory routine afterwards.

Just follow the manual and drive more, worry less.

doing your first oil change at 1000 is good, their have been pictures posted of the metal that is in the oil after the first oil change. The blue o-ring does come off, get a small pocket screwdriver and it pops right off, sometimes they are a little stuck, but you are supposed to change them EVERY time.

and I also changed my oil early. i did it at 1100 i think.. and to be honest. The oil looked like it had 15000 or 20000 miles on it. It was BLACK like BLACK BLACK..

Yeah I agree with changing the baby oil in 1000 or so Kms. Just for the peace of mind that you won’t have break in particles in the oil. What I usually do is 1500km for the baby oil change, second oil change after 5k with a full flush (DIY style), and then after that change the oil every 8-10k max. One may think that I’m nuts, that it doesn’t need that much maintenance, but hey, if you shove a boroscope down it’s yap, you’ll see it’s nice n clean in there. Lol. I like to keep my investments meticulously maintained. A little extra on the PMs will only provide more enjoyment over the lifetime of the vehicle which may even be extended by babying it. Lol
