Sonic for tall people?

Hello to the Sonic family here.

I will start off by saying that I own a 2002 Chevy Silverado. It's been really dependable and never had a problem with it. The only problem I have with it now is the fact that it gets really low MPG, like REALLY low and living in Southern California, I have to drive all over the place sometimes. As a Grad Student (I'm 27) I would like to save some moolah on gas and still be able to drive something fun. I'll be honest, didn't know much about the Sonic until the Super Bowl ads. They made an impression, and I looked into it...

Anyway, It seems that the Sonic is just that, a fun car that would be good for road trips up to Northern California be it the Bay Area or camping in Yosemite. I am pretty active guy, I go biking in the hills around here and also right now I am prepping for the LA Marathon. So the Sonic seems geared for people like myself.

Couple questions for those of you well versed in what Chevy has to offer and also having been in the car. I am 6'4....and my chief concern is if the Sonic will be roomy enough for my tall frame. The Honda Fit has plenty of room for a guy my size, but that car is for chicks IMO, sorry to say for those of you that drive a Honda Fit. Sonic has more of a mean look to it.

Second question, is the LTZ the only class that offers the sunroof/moonroof option?

Car sounds like a great idea for you. It might be a bit snug @ 6'4, but im sure you can adapt. Is that why you are interested in the sunroof? If I were you, id stay away from it. And yes, I believe its an LTZ option only.

And I agree. the newer Fits are total chick cars. The original US ones I liked, but the newer body *yuck*

There is already a thread on bike racks, also look into the BNR section for mods (have fun with CARB) :/

I hope you are looking into the Turbo option and going with either the 6spd (my recommendation) or waiting for a 1.4T Auto. I am partial to the LTZ as the price difference isnt too bad compared to the LT (required for Turbo motor) and the extra things you get (heated leatherette seats, Connectivity, Fogs, 17s).

My son is 6'4" and has no problem with the Sonic. Not sure of his weight these days but definitely at least 280.

I believe the sunroof does require the ltz.

I'm not quite as tall, but I'm 6'2" and it's still very comfortable and easy to get in n out of. I recommend a turbo sedan. has huge trunk to put all ur **** when u go to the bay or Yosemite. plus you'll look goofy as hell stepping out of a hatchback at 6'4

That got a chuckle from me. His daily drive is a long bed Silverado and I imagine I (a long haired hippy who looks like he belongs on Haight Street) probably look goofy climbing down from the cab of said truck.

Being vertically challanged at 6'7 a small car has been out of the question for me until now.My Sonic Hatchback has plenty of leg andhead room. Termite

Keto, As far as how much room there is, I looked at the specs and there is not much of a difference between a FIT and the Sonic. I have heard that the seats are much more comfortable on the Sonic than the FIT.

BTW I just saw a FIT on the way to the gym, chick was driving it...I had to laugh because I thought about this thread.

I haven't decided which option I am going with, but I am leaning towards the LTZ as you said, and I want the sunroof because its a cool thing to have, especially here in Southern California when driving along the coast.

Not a big fan of sedans and the like. Sedans don't scream fun, there were some cars I looked at like the Fusion Sport but just didn't sell me enough to buy it. Pretty sure the Sonic Hatchback LTZ is the way I am leaning at this point, has essentially everything I want and more. Just need to get inside one and take it for a test drive. I've looked around at the dealerships here in Socal and they don't seem to have the color and options I want in their lots yet. I do notice dealers here are going to get a lot of transfers of cars so we will see.

I am not in a hurry to get one, but hopefully by this summer I will be cruising around in one of those bad boys.

Don't listen to him Hatchbacks rule . A wannabe big little sedan . Or a all around sweet looking and handling HOT Hatch is the way to go . The LTZ 1.4 L 6 speed manual IMHO is the funnest thing to come along in ages . I don't think you largeness is going to be a problem . Unless your are planning on getting gigady in the back seats . If you have the time the new RS's are come soon more fun . If not you have time to order one .

Sedans are too business class for me.

I don't know when I will get my LTZ but hopefully by summer.

I respectfully disagree. Aveo and Sonic are quite a bit different. Aveo is essentially bland and looks boring. The Sonic looks meaner and ready for an adventure. Hatchbacks are coming back for a reason, young people aren't looking for a giant suv anymore or a gas guzzling truck. Chevy and others are marketing to what the young generation wants.

From the late 80s golfs to the 90s Hondas to the newer GTIs, Mazda(speed)3s and Fits, I think its a safe bet that they havent really gone out of style.

And I agree that it looks different enough from the Aveo to be differentiated.
