Chevy cruze in diesel power

I am NOT impressed with there diesel, 148hp 250 lb of torque on a 2.0?!?! Really? Even with the over boost feature you get 280lb of torque for 10 sec! Let's take a look at the other new diesels coming out
( side note: the def tank needs filled every 10k but there starting price is $25.6)


3.2 power stroke, this diesel has been on the global market in the ford ranger (would give my left nut for one) for a couple years and has been proven to be a good engine spec: 215hp 450torque

3.0 VM motori (14' grande Cherokee). Spec 240hp 420 lb or torque

OK you might be saying " those engines are a whole liter bigger" I agree but let's look at my favorite diesel maker of all time Mercedes benz

There new 2.1l inline 4 makes 200hp and 369 lb of torque

.1 liter bigger and is 50hp and over 100lb more torque...... what happen Chevy?




So that's the end of my rant. I would like to add that I am interested to see what tuning is going to bring power wise. So we will see

I'm looking at engine size not car size. Benz can get more power at the same mpg.

I am going to do more research on the diesel to find out more specific specs

Compared to other diesels that car coming out its not impressive. With the advances in technology I would expected more

Look at the power band. VW has it is extremely flat until the upper RPMs. If I recall this will be a VM knock off, built by GM using their design. This has me think it is tuned for maximum mpg.

It is also detuned for the auto. Mark my words, they might end up chewing them up anyway.

I have not dug into the specs yet. With chevys diesel history I hope that pull this off and I agree with the trans

No tune needed. My TDI was rated for 41 mpg highway. Combined I was normally north of 44 mpg. On good tanks 47 to 49 mpg. Had some around 50, and most of my tanks were 650 miles and over. Had one over 700.

I see it being as good or better. The drag is about the same and the Cruze weighs less. Unless they use Eco areo, which if it is will school people on diesel.

I will have to admit that my opinion of it may drastically change when I drive one( planing on testing driving) but the fact that gm designed this diesel is what scares me. Now I will say I am not up to date with there European models so I don't know if they make the diesels for them but the last time they tryed that it went horribly wrong.

They are based off the VM design. That can be bad or good. I also remember the GM design being less noisy and weighs less. It will be good.

I personally like noisy diesels but that's me. I even straight piped my Mercedes diesel because turbo sound!

The noise reduction is a good thing. They removed the non sweet noises, so the golden notes can be heard.

I like all the diesel sounds so it does not bother me.

I am very interested to test drive this car though.
