Which way do you have your subwoofers facing? Towards the seats. Facing up. Or facing the hatch? Trying to get the best sound. Trying to see how other hatch owners got there set up.
If you want sound quality then you need to face the subs and port upwards, If you want SPL or sheer loudness then you want to face them to the rear approximately the ports width from the hatch wall... So for example if your port is 5" wide and 10" tall place the enclosure 5" from the hatch wall. This will create more rattle but also will create a wall for the sub woofer and ports pressure to "load" thus allowing for more bass you feel rather than just hear. The distance will be optimal so the waves will not cancel and you will feel them physically more. If your port is extremely thin such as 1" then place the box about 5" from the wall. If the box is sealed then placement distance doesn't matter, rear facing for SPL and up for SQ. If you lower your seats you do gain a great deal of SPL.
Thanks a lot. Which way do you have ur subs facing ?

If your ports are side firing it shouldnt make any noticeable difference facing the subs up or rear. Your Ports are still loading pressure to the sides regardless. In a ported enclosure port direction is 99% of the sound.
I have mine facing towards the hatch.
When I have them facing UP there isn't as much bass resonance, and I don't hear some bass notes from certain songs that are there when the subs are facing the rear. Keep in mind this is a ported enclosure and there is a port on both sides (not visible).
There was no rattle for me before or after I added sound proofing, but I went ahead and did it anyway. I'm convinced it sounds better with it. I've stood outside the car and it still sounds good. No rattles nor is it boomy. Sit inside, close the door and it sounds great.
I've been thinking about sound proofing my car. Is it hard/expensive?
Yeah... except it does make a difference for me. Not significant, but definitely noticeable.
Mister, could you tell me the ports width, height, and approx. length? and its distance from being flush with a wall? You don't have to but I study these kinds of things... If I can take what you told me and study on the ports placements it may provide valuable information for many sonic owners intending on doing a subwoofer.
Also you said a port on both sides?
