But windows up and AC off will consume less than either, and the best windows down can achieve is ambient temps plus some wind chill effect. That's why I figure use windows to dump built up heat, AC to reach comfortable, and recirc vent to keep things moving, would be the ideal plan. Again, we'll see how I feel driving around in the 90's later.

I also hate what the highway speed wind does to my eyes, so I'm biased in favor of AC.

As for cold weather, I'm still looking into rigging it so blowing hot air on the windshield doesn't also automatically turn on the compressor; I feel I can manually do that via the AC button and save by using compressor only when I actually need the drying effect.

I completely agree. Now having a sunroof, the movement of air in my cabin has been dramatically improved. I'm not as concerned over mileage as I probably should be. I just do whatever makes me happy. If that means using A/C while sitting in traffic, so be it!

The thing I have with the tests I've seen on windows down vs A/C arevery limited in their test procedures.
Things such as -speed, A/C system effeciency, -which windows are down, -how far are windows down, -how is A/C used.

I always run windows down and if it wasn't for my work commute I could go over 60mpg. Per tank in the summer (70mpg DIC so I'm guestimatting actual). If I turn on the A/C I watch my milage, and could garuntee I could not get as good as MPG with the A/C.

If any fellow data nerds are interested, almost all of my driving is highway, but 70-75mph. I've averaged 31.68mpg over the life of the vehicle so far, with my best mileage at 45.25mpg on a 70 mile trip that was mostly 55-60mph. My worst was 28.98mpg. I've got a heap of data already, since I have a 152-mile round trip commute (although I carpool, so that helps) ... but it seems I average about 31.5mpg at 75mph, and about 33mpg at 70mph. Haven't done any full tanks at 65mph, because the commute feels long enough as it is, and you get run off the road at that speed, lol ... I ought to give it a shot though.

Preloader is also easily winning the "I <3 OPEC" award @18.668 MPG.

sx sonic is winning the overall MPG @45.554, but others are close.

d.p. is winning "I drive WOT on the highway" award with 24.984 MPG.

Newcomer sinnerone is winning the "Change Purse" award for having the highest MPG using regular.

Macehammer is winning the "Audit me, I have pics and a tinfoil hat" award.

Red_RS is currently leading the "Fancy Pants" award in the RS MPG category.

Preloader has upped his stats to 19.203 MPG for the "Double Fisting Bushels of Corn" award and "I <3 OPEC" award.

Ungawd is currently winning the "I have a skinny left leg" award for the best MPG with an automatic transmission.

Btw, I had my best tank for 2013 @37.1 MPG. Last year was 38.something.

This car loves the warm weather. For next fall, with temps under 60*F I will use grille blocks. Maybe even do a skid plate. That will be the summer project as I will want the to be easily removable. With the warmer weather I see the DIC is also only .5ish off.

That was the first idea. The issue is, google docs isn't fancy enough for some functions. I even tried to "dumb down" and google docs still doesn't like it.

Version 2.0 might need a mirror type sheet that is simple stats.

The goal is to ween us off and have users gain access after some trials.

Mine is wide open, I may order one, or make my own skid plate.

This was the same issue my TDI. When you have an engine fighting to stay at operating temps fuel efficiency goes in the toilet.

Interesting note: after fill up this morning, I commuted to work between 70-75mph, without even focusing on high mpg, and I saw my estimated mpg climb to 27.5mpg. So I could reasonably get 30mpg, and a 25% cheaper than premium, I'm basically getting the cost efficiency of 40mpg.

I believe this is why I get excellent gas mileage with the auto despite the occasional beating it takes. When cruising it will seldom use boost. I'm not all about the creeping up to speed to pinch pennies either, I waste little time getting up to cruising speed.

As far as 60' time is concerned, I'm very curious how much difference your single-mass, or lighter, flywheel affects it. I have a strong feeling it will be quite obvious.

Notes: E85 injectors, Trifecta red pill Temps from 44 to 77, it's Texas.
lots of short hops into town and around town, perhaps 5 miles of interstate driving speeds up to 80 each way each trip, a couple longer trips about 25 miles at 70 or so.

I see 24.11mpg here, that's the best I've ever seen on E85, and between this and Preloader's run where he actually tried not to hammer much, I have some hopes for getting better mpg in warm weather. Surprising how much the cold seems to hit us. I have another tank going treating it the same as this one, then I'll see if I can arrange for a quiet running E85 tank.
