4.9=300. The legendary 300 straight six! 5.0 = 302

And 4.6 is not really that new. They released it on the 93 Lincoln's under the in tech name. (Dohc version, amazing engine btw). The modular engines where good and bad. The 4.6 in any configuration was awesome! The 5.4 in 2 and 4 value were good but the 3 value truck motor was soso. The 6.8 v10 was only good if it was always under a load.

Yea, except if you're gonna round numbers a 302 is a 4.9 liter not a 5.0.
A 305 is something like 4.99 so that can be rounded to 5.0.


Car companies aren't the only ones, my Suzuki DS80 was something like 78CCs. Now which one is more deceiving, percentage wise. 2CCs out of 80, or 4 cubic inches out of 300+

Sure,

Its not like any company ever had any more than one of a specific engine.

Lets see,

Buick 350, Olds 350, Pontiac 350, Chevy 350,
Ford 351 Cleveland, 351 Windsor and we all know there were many many 302s.

This list could obviously go on and on and on and on, but I think I made my point. Ford called the 302 a 5 liter for a reason, it wasn't just a name it sounded bigger than 4.9 Just like $3.99 is somehow a lot less than $4.00.


Oh and while we're on it, either the 1.4 isn't 1.4 liters or it isn't 83 cubic inches because 83 cubic inches is 1.36 liters.

I didnt expect my comment to cuase a debate haha.

obviously most engines displacement is going to math out a little less than the badge on the back/side. In this example 5.0 sounds much better than 4.9xx so thats what it gets badged.

I just find some amusement in busting the Ford folks chops. such as the many tool bags that drive mustangs and say "yea i got a FIVE-O, its super fast", its my little slight to them.

Tbh I was never a fan of the 302 in the mustangs up until the new coyote 5.0. I have always been a 4.6 man. I especially have a hard on for the Dohc 4.6 I had. It ran like a raped and still got 20mpg

Eh, this is just something I've thought was kinda funny for years. I had that DS80 when I was 7 years old and by the time I was 8 it seized up from a cracked intake coupler.
