I know this is probably crazy. Accepting that I am 45 years old, and listen to The Beatles, I'd like to add a bit of "thump" to my Sonic hatchback. For when I do play some Numan or NIN. But I lost most of my hearing in my 1988 Hyundai that had 18 drivers in it! So I'm not after serious sound here.
Been tossing around various sub ideas, from low profile line-level amp/sub enclosures to custom boxes. Thing is, I want to preserve my trunk/hatch space, and don't really want anything back there in the way. I am keen on using the space between the spare tire cover and the lift-out hatch false floor. One of those low profile amped deals would fit there, but their reviews are not so good.
What would happen if I just bought, say, two 8" or 10" subs and a line level capable amp, cut two holes for the subs in the floor thingy, and wired it all up? Accepting that perhaps some calculations of volume would need to be done, would it sound half way decent? I'm not after serious "car dat go boom" crap, just some low end--something I can modestly feel.
I've forgot most of what I knew about subs, even though I sold the stuff back in the late '80's. Any thoughts? Subs in the floor would be relatively out of the way, and I reckon I might even be able to continue to use my rubber floor mat back there, just cover 'em up.
Thanks! CG
