Why did you buy a Sonic?

Grew up in Detroit suburbs, family works for Big 3. Had an Audi, too expensive to maintain. It's aggressive styling and fun driving experience attracted me. Not to mention the price.

I bought a sonic because for the price and a car with a turbo with the MPG's, cant beat it in my opinion.

I was starting to fork over an embarrassingly high amount a year in maintaining my old Escort and decided it was time for a new car. I wanted to go used, but I couldn't find a manual car that I both liked and could afford. A coworker's husband is a Chevy salesman and told me about the Sonic, and I really liked it when I saw it.

When I bought my Sonic it was almost a spare of the moment thing. I was desperate for a car. The car I wanted to get was a mazda 3, the mazda dealer wasn't going to budge on the price so I went to carmax to look at a used mazda 3. I almost got one but that night I was browsing around to see if I could find any new cars in my price range. I glanced at a chevy dealer website not expecting to find anything i'd actually like. My opinion of chevy's were they were to bland for my liking so I wasn't expecting much. I took a look at a Sonic and was was pleased by the interior. So later that night I did some research on them and found out that the 1.4 turbo was the one to get. So I went down to the dealer and sealed the deal on a new Sonic.

It was a cheap and efficient American turbo 4cyl with potential.

It's very easy for a car guy to make a Sonic quick, nimble, and mean looking.

For me, the Sonic is a compromise between the fun sporty car I want and the family-friendly daily driver I need.

The modded TJ Rubicon I owned was no longer practical for me. My needs changed quite a bit: I moved to a different state, wanted to do road trips to places I can hike/MTB, etc. The gas mileage penalty of the Jeep was incredible, as much as I loved that thing. I am saving $200/month in gas. Much more when I take trips.

So when the time came to settle on a car, I wanted something that I could live with MPG-wise as well as something that's not a total dishwasher appliance. It also absolutely had to be a hatchback. The 1.4T was THE selling point. I would not have bought a Sonic if it wasn't for the 1.4T 6MT combo, even though I like the rest of the car very much.

Funny story actually... had a civic.. hated it.. went to trade it in for a Nissan titan (i know riiiight) and the dealer wanted me to botch some info so I said no thanks... ended up hitting a jackpot (1500 not too shabby) at the casino one saturday morning so I said ... I want a new car.. Drove to the Chevy dealership to look through the used lots (honestly wanted a sentra ) couldnt find anything. Was about to leave when the sales guys yells WAIT HAVE YOU SEEN THE SONIC? I was all the whatic? He brings it around from the back (just shipped in, first one the dealer had) test drove it (at night) loved it, bought it and as I was driving home realized it had manual windows.

Trust and believe, if I would have known all the **** I could have had in it (cough TURBO cough) I would have it, but since I had no clue (due to it being brand new and never seen by me before) I ended up with my little 1.8 manual window bucket

well, my dad was getting something fixed on his truck and was looking around the lot with my mom when they saw the sonics. I was looking at getting a new car because my current car at the time was on its last leg.. I went 1 week later and bought the sonic. It was very good timing because i came home to my old car with tranny fluid all over the ground and a shot tranny...

Ill call that a win in my book...

The value the color the design and the fact that you can fit like 5 bikes adult ones inside.

Plus the people at Chevy were sooooooo more professional like the the guy at the damn Volkswagen dealer laughed at me when I questioned whether a bike would fit in the beetle and golf and was acting like he was on cloud nine and crap. And the guy at Mazda was on something shady as hell and the fiat well didn't make since nor could I drive it with my boots. Honda fit was noisy

I liked the color. Looking back I should have spent the extra money and ordered a lt turbo. But she was on the lot and lookin pretty and I got it for a hell of a price so I'm very happy with my car

For me, personally...I was actually going to purchase a Spark just because I wanted something cheap, new, and good fuel economy. Coming from an Audi, I was tired of the high repair bills, premium fuel required, and so-so gas mileage. Looking for a smaller car that doesn't cost too much, easy to help get my credit back on track (drove it into ground since I was young and stupid).

Showed up, actually got into a Sonic and loved it. Feels very more high-end than the Spark but not quite as nice as the Cruze (but IMO looks better than the Crude). I wish I could have gotten the 1.4L Turbo, but I ended up with a 1.8 LT - still super nice interior, not base by any means, and the aggressive front end styling is awesome. Lower it, throw some nicer wheels on it, and tint, it'll look amazing IMO.

Plus, I grew up in Detroit and a lot of my family works for the Big 3 and since it's made in US that was a plus. Not to mention this car is going to be a lot cheaper to maintain than my Audi. Still requires synthetic oil, but at least I don't have to dump premium fuel into it at the pump. :banana: ...and repairs overall will be cheap.

So why did you buy a Sonic?

I looked at the spark but my sales rep told me I'd hate it plus I think it was more of an impulse

Needed a car that day, wanted new, manual, fun to drive, and good economy. Waled away with the one LT HB with a manual on the lot. It may only be a 1.8, but I still enjoy it. The only 1.4T manual on the lot was a fully loaded LTZ that was out of my budget. I was looking at the Sonic since it was even harder to find a Cruze manual on a lot and the wagon version is not available here. Having spent 6 months retooling Orion Assembly didnt hurt my decision either.
