Bump* I just want to say Thank you to all our Veterans out there that have served, and to those that are serving now.

I would also like to ask the fellow military folk the question of, what is the real definition of
Active duty vs. Reserves...
Yes i can google it all day long, but i rather here it from fellow members here that i feel more comfortable talking to...

And the next question is... is it really that hard to become an Air Force Officer... the last two days i've heard a handful of veterans i deal with say they knew people get turned down, one even including a guy with a 4.0GPA for the field he wanted in.

Any and all information would be much help.

Active is 24/7 365 reserve is part time. And its probably hard to become an officer with the downsizing

Active Duty is a full-time soldier. Reserves is a part-time soldier, even though with the military op-tempo of the last decade, the Reserves has seen more action than they had in the recent past.

Due to the consistent presence of military-related activities in the "Active Duty" soldier's life, they are often at a higher state of readiness. Not necessarily a rule... Person to Person... though.

Other than that, they wear the same uniform, often do the same jobs, and both are necessary.

America couldn't afford to fight large protracted wars without a conscript force, and wouldn't be successful without an effective ready full-time fighting force.

I did a few years in the Army, one Iraq tour, and had an accident, which disqualified me from further service. Nothing super-crazy. Glad I did what I did.

Others who have served should be glad they did also, regardless of the time or place. The sacrifice of Soldiers is one of the few things left that makes America great.

What is you guys view on the intel side? I'm looking at more towards that side of officer duties. Ik I have to go to OCS, and I know i have to take that test to see where my skills set are placed. Is it difficult to gain access to the intel side? Like SOCOM or that area?

you need 4 years of college with OCS, or do ROTC.

Choosing your branch isn't like you just get whatever you want, unfortunately. while you may try to go for intel, you might get stuck with something completely different like field artillery, you know? You just have to go out and do your absolutely best and be the best in your class.

I wouldn't call it "stuck" with artillery but no officer chooses artillery and I know if u pick it in one of ur choices ,,, that's what your gettin

if you're going for intel, anything else you'd be getting "stuck" with.
