You wouldn't happen to have an idea of why these carbs are each jetted differently would you? My understanding is one carb feeds one valve, and the other two valves but they each have different jet sets and that makes no sense to me. It came from the factory with two different sets and the aftermarket jet kits come with two different pairs.

660CC, 2 carbs, 1 cylinder, 5 valves, dry sump and water cooled. Its actually a pretty mean engine as far as ATVs go.

But yes many times I've wondered wtf is with 2 carbs on one cylinder. As I said one feeds one valve, and the other feeds the other two valves. Not sure why it was done but I'm sure they had their reasons. Whats interesting is the newer Raptor 700 is fuel injected and is 4 valve instead of 5.

To be honest I have never Hurd of a 5 valve engine till now. But that makes sense why it has 2 different jets

I think some other companies have used them as well in the past.

But why does that make sense regarding the jets? I still don't get it.

If one carb is feeding 2 values then it will have to flow more fuel. They basically took to total amount of fuel it needs and split it between two carbs and three values. This is how I understand it


What are the jet sizes?

I am going to assume the small carb feeds a single valve for low throttle/load conditions and the bigger carb kicks in when the need for power arrises. Just my guess.

5 valve heads have been used off and on by a few companies throughout the years. Not sure if the benefit out weighs the cost though.

Carbs are both the same size.

Not sure of the jet sizes right now but I'll try to look them up when I have a sec. The vacuum controls on top appear to change the mixture based on the vacuum at the input of the carbs (air cleaner side).

That is Normal on all vacuum operated carbs. If you pull the top cap off you will have a spring, and you can pull the needle out the Venturi ( that thing blocking the intake) in the Venturi there is two holes. One for the needle and one for vacuum. As you open the throttle you let more air flow across the vacuum hole creating a vacuum in the diaphragm lifting the Venturi and the needle allowing more fuel to enter the engine... This is why the needle is tapered

The needle sets down in a Emerson tune and on the end of that tube ( access trough the float bowl) is the jet.

PLease tell me there is insulation on that wire and not just bare copper under the convoluted tubing. I guess I never shop for the stuff but where do you even get 0 AWG wire from? Based on the bend on it it is either Superflex or welding cable.

Cmon man you can see there is red insulation on it near the batt terminal.

What I found ugly is the tire tube on the bracket.

Going by the looks I'm betting he got it from a stereo shop.

On my screen it looks copper color. The cat pranced across the keyboard a few weeks ago and no matter what I do the screen defaults to the same color tones and things do not look quite right. Also, my vision sucks. I need to get my eyes checked and get new glasses again.

Haha. Not going blind, but vision is off. Dont even see the same colors out of both eyes. One eye has a blue hue to what I see from it. I get new glasses every year and I am a few months overdue. They get stronger as well, but the change is slowing down. Set you screen to about half way between white and sepia tone. That is the I am dealing with on my screen.
