1986 Pontiac Fiero, The New Whip

I have recently (yesterday) acquired a 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE which will be taking up a huge portion of my free time.

It has the 4 speed muncie with the 2.8L V6 which is currently blown and out of the car.

As a result, I will be spending less time on this forum, a blessing to some of you, I know.
I hope to keep you all updated as to the progress of this soon-to-be sports car, I know there are a few Fiero fans here.

That's in great looking shape, my cousins buddy is a fiero nut and has several donor fiero's, i think 2 GT's and 1 2m4. If you need any parts, he might have it!

2.8L V6? If I recall that was around 130hp I think?

Interesting the needles in the gauges are the same shape the ones in my 87 grandprix where. Except those were a dark orange color, maybe the sun faded yours? Probably just a different design even tho the pointers are the same shape.

Took me about 6 months from the time I learned what the hell a "Fiero" was, but I got one!

Put a small block v8 in it

Eventually..... I would LOVE to throw in GM's 3.6L V6 twin turbo that is going to be in the 2014 cadillac ats with a 6 speed, but more practical right now, is the 3.9L 240 HP V6 with a 6 speed that was in the 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP's. My buddy had one and that thing was a rocket, and it is supposed to fit in a Fiero, so I think that will be my first attempt.

Yup, approximately 126-130 hp depending on who you ask...

I'm sure the needles are a little faded, but when you turn on the dash lights the red lights everything up pretty well so I'm happy with it

I thought GM was strictly a pail blueish white in the 80s. Never cared for it at all honestly.

Left side of the speedo isn't that bright, but it'll be replaced, all in due time.

Yeah some new bulbs, or even cleaning the contacts on the ones that are there should brighten it all up.

Yeaaa its on the to-do list.
After new rotors/pads, connecting the brake lines
fixing the passenger side headlight motor
diagnosing the slow speed of power windows
New back window and rear view mirror glass (foggy)

Oh, and new motor/tranny.

And I really only need brakes, headlights, and the motor before she's road legal

I HATED working on 1980s stuff because the plastic is garbage. Anytime you touch something, crack!


I might be really far off but for some reason that Blaupunkt comes across as being a highend unit at one point in time?

Always had a severe case of lust for the '88 GT.

Funny how dated the wheels and dash look now. Flat and rectangular were once what we were used to. Now interiors are "interesting" (look at the Sonic for goodness sake!).

All I know is that its aftermarket, and maybe because I like more high-tech easy to use stuff, this thing blows chunks.

There's an 88 for sale locally on Kijiji - in beautiful shape, black with T-Tops. Only 33,000km on it (20K miles).

Pretty sweet, but the guy's asking $14K for it.

Even in absolutely perfect condition, its not worth that.
They retailed for about $13,000 and they haven't started going back up in value yet.
