I'm pretty sure he's tuned so it doesn't have to be the stock diameter. That plastic is only for people that aren't tuned.

The sleeve in my ZZP was also crazy tight... but it was aluminum, not plastic, so it was a little easier to get out without destroying it.
And yes, that tube is in there to make the super awesome massive intake into a merely good intake in order to use the stock tune, if you are getting a custom tune you can remove it for full awesome.
At least that's the theory, in practice, the difference between in and out is largely one you can only see on a gauge somewhere.

I think ZZP should make it an option when ordering the intake to whether that piece is in there...if you have a tune or are getting a tune when installing the intake, order it one way...if you plan to keep it stock, order the other way...that eliminates the need to do this yourself and then only the people who didn't originally plan to get a tune will have to deal with removing it if needed.

You probably expect everything to be hand delivered to you as well..... I hate to say it, he did it "your way" and got exactly the product that ZZP produces to a T. If you want something out of the norm you might have to get off your lazy ass and go out of your way to get it done.

you wont find it.. only thing youll find is "new insert as of 1/1/13" which i dont know what the hell that meant anyway
either way they should have an option at checkout for the insert
I agree, it should come as an option or perhaps with the reducer still in the package but not inserted.
I wouldn't go as far to say "he needs everything handed to him" that's not really neccesary. This could be used as good feedback to ZZP. It would give their customers more options and ease of use/installment of their product. Win win. Maybe they didn't think about it or maybe they did and have their reasons. They still can place a note on the site about it and a proper removal technique so there are no surprises.

If I could see through the rubber coupling of the K&N filter I probably could point it out to you.... It says it comes with an insert, not sure why it wouldn't be inserted into the intake. It sounds like nothing will make you happy at this point though. This has been covered on the forum and the headache of removing it as well, maybe put a little more research into what you're buying. I would say enjoy your intake but it sounds like this has ruined you with ZZP...... Maybe if you contact them and propose the idea about adding an option to them you might solve the problem for someone else.

I think it's probably best as-is. Inevitably more dumbasses who don't know what they are ordering will order one without the insert and put them on their non-tuned cars and come up with issues, then place all the blame on ZZP.
While there are lots of tuned cars on this forum, I'd say we are the minority. Being that we have taken the time to tune our cars, I'm guessing ZZP probably assumes a certain level of knowledge, and takes the chance on giving us the benefit of the doubt over the average a$$hole.
Having held multiple leadership roles dealing with the public, I know that it is MUCH easier to idiot-proof something. The intake is a very easy upgrade, my 14-year old daughter could take it on. Have you noticed the items that require more specialized knowledge to install include more options? Just take is as a compliment and move on.

Very true and good point. Again I'll state though, it could be fixed by not having the piece preinstalled with instructions when it's not needed and how to install if it is.
I'd be a little irked if it was in there really tight and I scuffed up my new intake removing it and may rant a little about it. As someone already said, what's done is done..call/email them and maybe make the suggestion.

It has also been well documented on this forum that the insert is a pain in the ass to remove. I dont even have a 1.4 and I know about the insert.

When contacting ZZP you need to use email. Their phone number has an answering machine and if I recall correctly it says the call will not be answered by a human.
I have no doubt their intake is shipped with the insert for reasons Insanika has stated. I suspect an email reques that it be shipped could work as long as the message includes words to the effect one knows the difference and accepts responsibility if installing the device without an ecm mod.
The insertion may be firm to keep it inplace when in use as well as to make sure it does not inadvertently fall out before installation.

And no, I seriously expect them to give the option on the website for with and without the restrictor. I guess that's just too damn much to expect huh? Time is money and I don't have time to make a phone call for something that should be presented properly on a website. I am away from home for 12-14 hours every day 5+ days a week. Sorry that I expect 2 hours to my self to eat and relax before going to bed every night. Before you call someone lazy maybe you should know a little about their life style first.
