ABS/Stabilitrack light came on for a week and then went away

I was driving last week, and the ABS and Stabilitrack lights came on. I was going to take it to the dealership, but showed up too late for their techs to investigate. Naturally, the lights went away and have been gone now for two days.

Should I take in the car to be looked at, or will they just tell me that there is nothing they can do unless the lights come back on?

Take it in and see what's in the fault history. They'll probably check it, try to duplicate it, and if unsuccessful tell ya to come back if it comes on again.

Then if it comes back on they're forced to spend time rooting around till they find the problem. Or it was a fluke.

Thanks, I'll do that. I wasn't sure if there was a history of those errors or not. It would be a waste of my time to take it in, and there not be some history that it happened.

No prob. Odds are if you didn't notice any drivability problems and the light only came on once they won't be able to find anything. BUT you'll be in the system for a fault if it comes on again, you'll also know what the fault is, also ask what the fault is when you go in just so you know.

FYI typically if the tech can't duplicate the complaint they don't have much to go on for diagnosis and will do a basic check and send you on your way in the hopes it was a fluke. Believe it or not alot if the time it is a fluke, if the fault repeats itself then odds are there's an issue and they accept the fact that more indepth diag is needed.

Your 1st visit for "occasional or hard to duplicate" problems is more about establishing a fault history then fixing the fault. Just the way it is for rare problems, 1st job as a tech is "duplicate or confirm the complaint". If they can't duplicate they don't have much to stand on and assume It's a fluke. 2nd time It's probably an issue and the the car doc had to come out
