Aftermarket c/o's that have been adjusted for max low are more of an issue for strut clearance than stock c/o's with lowering springs.

Aftermarket c/o's actually bring the coil perch down into the danger zone when they are adjusted to lower the car. Lowering coils do not affect the stock perch height whatsoever.

Also if you feel you must get aftermarket c/o's for MOAR low, there is a way, it just involves getting shorter springs for the c/o's to bring the perch back up and out of the way.

There are many ways to overcome what doesn't seem possible when it comes to suspension.

Hey all,

So I finally found the wheels I want to put on my Sonic, snapped a photo of them, but I'm having a hard time tracking down part numbers of specs to see if it "can be done"

Wait for it...

Now before you go postal on me, I'm not thinking of running those tires. Anyone seen, have, know of these?

Can I use lowering springs without an issue?

I'm brand new to this forum and my knowledge of wheels and spacing is elementary. I have a '13 sonic sedan and just bought 18x8" rims with a 38mm offset. The tires are 215/40/18... they have an overall diameter of 24.8 which isn't much bigger than the tire diameter on there. I scanned all 15 pages and didn't notice anyone mentioning lowering springs with 18's. Can I use a set and if so does anyone recommend using one brand vs. another. Thanks in advance.

Cleverly done, Macehammer but I am still hoping for lightening to strike.

19brendan80, the best lowering coils, without a doubt, are Pedders, but for reasons I have failed to learn, Pedders as of this moment no longer has Sonic lowering coils to sell. I am now on Eibachs, and am happy with the result. And, an important thing to consider, Eibachs are available.

Why would you want to use C1500 wheels on a Sonic?

In regards to inner clearance, they'll definitely clear in the rear. The fronts, I'm not so sure; you might want spacers there.

In regards to outer clearance, they will probably stick out about 6mm, so you might be fine depending on suspension and tire choice.

For reference, look at MPFab's threads as he put 18x9.5 +42 in the rear of his car. I think he said that 18x9.5 +42 would need about .5 inches (so roughly 12.7mm) more to clear, so that would translate to +42 -12 = +30mm.

Play around with this website for more info on how the wheels will sit in regards to outer clearance:

(use 85 for fender distance to hub)

Obviously, it's not exact as every tire is made a little differently, but it'll give you a good idea of how the wheels will fit.

I've ordered wheels and adapters. We're going to see if an 18"x8.5" wheel and 225/40 tire will fit. The wheel is 56mm offset with 25mm adapters, so an effective offset of 31mm. I'm worried. To death.

in for results. im wanting basically the same fitment but on a 17 with a little more tire

Help me out please.

I'm thinking of running Sport Edition F12 wheels.

According to tire rack, the size is 17x7.5 with 42mm offset.

What's the widest size tire I can run on these wheels without rubbing?

I live in a bumpy area and I plan on installing eibach springs within the next couple months. I do not want to run a low profile tire (because then the ride height would be lower, correct?). I want to lower my RS but I also want to maintain as much height as possible.

Given my situation, what would you recommend as a good size tire?

But more seriously, is it you intent to lessen the gap between tire and fender, or to lower your car? I'm pretty sure some are running some 18 in tires under their sonics with little to no modification to the fender well. But then you could go get some coilovers and really stupid small wheels/low profile tires and practically scrape on a flat stretch of road. I am confused where you sit on this issue. Maybe go bigger wheel first, and then adjust from there...?

My intentions for lowering the car are in order to lessen the gap between the tire and fender. The reason why I want to run 17 inch wheels is because I'm afraid of spending a lot of money on tires. 17 inch are also easier to find tires for (from what I've heard).

I screwed up and forgot to change it to 85 on the current setup.

I'm still waiting on the adapters and tires, then it's go time.

And you're doing 215s to get a light stretch so you clear your fender openings, correct?
