Current Sonic Issues... idle and AC problems

Update to my AC problem...

Well I am still feeling the AC surge when it kicks in and out and my dealership says its normal... but my service writer DID say he felt it kick in and out when we went for a drive and he was driving and was able to point it out to me! He agreed that it shouldn't do it but since the tech didn't find anything wrong that there's nothing they can do about it... which I totally disagree with.

I am going to try a different dealer (the perks of living in a major city) and see if they find out anything. I don't know whether to play dumb or to explain the whole thing... that's my conundrum right now.

After that, I am probably going to contact GM because I understand that the compressor is supposed to turn on and off, but it should not do it so abruptly.

Possibly. My car has been at the dealer for about a week. I mentioned the rough idle occurred regularly, and had the mechanic take it out for a drive. We sat at a red light, lo and behold it idled terrible and even felt like it missed.

Later they called to say they found some fuel system trouble codes posted by the computer (though there was never a check engine light) and they were re-flashing the computer.

I'm picking it up on Monday. I can report back on how it works out.

When I took mine in for service, the service manager told me he tested several Sonic's on the lot and they all had the rough idle, so he thought it was normal and I was sent on my way.

Yes, but having this problem since basically new, numerous trips to the dealer throughout the year thinking it would be fixed and having to try a 2nd one because the first one won't do anything about it is totally unacceptable (in my opinion).

Just some rambling that might help me fix my hesitation and driviability problems.

I am having issues hesitation and stumbling but my dealer says there's nothing wrong with the car. I know my plugs are gapped to the 0.028. I even put on Borla cat-back exhaust and a ZZP intake (yes the insert is still in cause I'm not tuned) and its just as terrible to drive as the bone stock car was. So I am at a loss right now... even when running any octane 87 or 93 it still is miserable to drive with the AC on because I get vehicle surging at highway speeds even on flat/slight inclines but major hills are the worst and I just end up dropping it into M and force it downshift which helps some but then I am getting spark knock. I do know to "fix" my rough idle they updated the stock ECM program which was supposed to help with drivability about a year ago but it didn't do anything and it might of made it worse but its been so long ago I can't really say.

When I put my intake on, I did notice the small inlet pipe on the left side of the turbo inlet pipe before the turbo had some black shiny stuff (I'm guessing oil) kinda streaked down about 3 inches from it leading towards the turbo vanes.

And when the car is hot after driving it, you can obviously smell oil like an oil leak but even going 5K on oil changes it only drops down about 1/4 of a qt. And I don't make a mess or spill any oil when doing my oil changes.

Oh and I forgot it was a muggy 95 degrees today and my AC was cycling every 8-10 seconds (once the interior cooled down to a comfortable level) while on the highway with the blower on 2&3 with recirculate on too... apparently that's normal too according to my dealer.

I ended up calling GM Customer Assistance... we'll see what happens now; that's all I know at the moment. It's ridiculous I have get to this point but I had no other choice.

This may show my age but I have long understood one should not use recirculate and air at the same time for extended periods. Do not know why and given my age it may no longer be a consideration.

This isn't true and never was. My only guess is you're confusing it with heat as using recirculate with heat for a long time can really dry the air out. I will use recirculate with heat 'floor only' when its really cold and the car isn't fully warmed up yet as it allows it to heat the engine and car faster. But as soon as I can I let fresh air in.

Recirculate is a MUST on hot days with A/C on. Personally I use it on any day above 80F or when its humid out at any temp even 60F.

All it does is recirculates most of the air and pulls in very little outside air, be it hot, or damp this way the system cools the car down easier and better. Or on humid days it allows it to dry the air out in the car more.

If you could observe your highside pressure on a 100F day stuck in traffic with recirc on and off, you would be amazed at the difference. Recirc can easily drop your highside 100PSI or more on a hot day sitting still. That means your compressor will love you as will your hoses and TXV.

your transmission isn't shifting into neutral like it should when stopped and in drive. its your transmission trying to push against the brakes, and ac drops your idle even lower.

Looks like they knew the cars were having AC issues and only had the program around for a while. Seems like something is up with chevy and their hvac systems being faulty and them knowing about the issues and not wanting to do anything about it. Unless I'm the only one who got a lemon
